Hi littleone,
If done by someone with experience it's warm, but does not hurt. If it's too hot they just need to hold it higher so it has a chance to cool more before it touches your skin. Again if done right it does not leave any marks. Before you get waxed you should put lotion or oil on you too. It will help you take the wax off after you're done.
If you're still unsure pour a little white candle wax on your arm yourself. That will show you what it feels like before you're in the middle of a scene with someone else.
Good Luck,
sub suzanne

Well it depends, are you talking about waxing as in hair removal? Or waxing as in wax dripping and play?

Here is my standard response to both:
Sugaring/Waxing
In the pro world known as a "Brazilian" or waxing off all or almost all of one's pubic hair, or one can try sugaring instead of the wax. This is messier, longer, more expensive if you go to a pro (and I DO recommend going to a pro). It also lasts much longer and over time leads to slower/less growth overall. As well, when the hair grows back, it is finer without the rough stubble feeling. It's not as accessible as shaving and at-home methods as you have to find a place that offers this service.

Also, many people have issues with new women being so close and touching their pubic area. Don't be. They are pros and do it a lot, you aren't that amazing to them. You should get most of the stickiness off before you leave the appointment, but some might remaind. As well, this does rip off the first layer of skin as well so no showering or lots of sun exposure for a day or so afterwards.

Wax Play
This is my general wax play design, easily modifiable if you want to
include multiple people.

Supplies: wax, long tip lighter, sheet or tarp, baby oil, knife,
baby powder, blindfold, (if using a crock pot, ladle, spatula,
paintbrush, any other spreading toys that look interesting)

Get the wax: Either two blocks of paraffin and two glassed church
candles melted together in a crock pot, or just the church candles
for easier transporting. I haven't noticed much temperature
derivation using these types of candles, but white wax is harder to
see where it falls and green tends to just look black on a person.
Start prep at least 2 hours before the scene by lighting the candles
or starting the wax to melt. If the candles are cold, it will take
longer and the wax won't melt as evenly

Prep the area: Flat surface is necessary, a bondage or massage
table usually works fine and is padded. Outside is nice because you
don't have to worry about getting wax on anything. If you are on
the floor, put a flannel sheet or comforter down first to keep
things from being too cold. Cover with an old sheet or tarp, and if
you're off the floor, cover the area nearby as well. Wax will get
everywhere! Lay out all supplies beforehand, you don't want to have
to leave burning candles or naked person alone too long. Also, make
sure your area is well-heated. Even though the wax will get them
warm and give them a nice shell, when it comes off they will feel
the cooler air.

Prep the people: Don't wear your good fetish gear! Again, wax will
get everywhere. For the waxer, wear throw away clothes and/or an
apron. For the waxee, get them naked and blindfolded. I like to
have their focus totally on the wax sensations and you don't have to
worry about wax splattering into eyes. Lay them down on the
surface, starting stomach down usually works best.

Start the scene: Start to connect with the bottom by massaging
their skin, letting them relax into position and get used to your
touch. Massage the baby oil onto their skin. Not only does this
feel yummy, but prevents wax from painfully sticking to hair and
makes it much easier to peel or scrape off. Once you're fully into
the scene, you can get into the wax.

Waxing: I start generally about 18 inches above the persons skin.
Get a good full layer all over their body. Be careful about
dripping on the sides as the skin is more sensitive. Once you've
established an initial layer, you can have more fun with sensations,
bringing the wax lower or higher to build heat (the higher the wax,
the more the splatter). You can paint the wax on, let it drip
slowly or just wash it over them with a ladle. The feet are also
lots of fun. On the stomach, be careful of the belly button.
Sometimes it's good just to put a plug of wax in there or cover it
with a cotton ball.

Removing wax: Wax is likely to still be slightly soft and pliable.
If you're peeling the wax, getting as much in one motion is a very
awesome feeling for the sub. Slowly start at the edges and pull up,
gathering the wax as you go. If you scrape, just press down gently
and pull towards the wax and down. There's always a few drips and
splatters to scrape off. If you've used oil, it should come off
fairly easily. Don't try to get off every piece of wax- a good
shower will do the best job at that.

After the wax: Once you've removed the wax, I sprinkle babypowder
all over the skin. The skin is very sensitive at this point and the
cool softness of the powder feels like rose petals just falling
down. You can rub the powder in and smooth over the skin. This
will help dry off some of the oil as well.

If you want to reuse your sheet, put it in the freezer to freeze the
wax, take it outside and get as much as you can off by shaking or
pulling it. Then toss in the washer and drier to remove the rest.

Short answer: It depends.

Longer answer: http://www.lovingdominant.org/wax.html
This is essentially the text from one section of my book, The Loving Dominant. It's been modified a bit because, after the book went to print, a physical chemist, who uses the scene name Spectrum, did some formal experiments and dispelled some of the errors that had been floating around the scene for years... for example, that raising a candle significantly lowers the temperature of the wax hittting the skin.

fastlane -> RE: Wax (8/29/2005 5:17:59 PM)

All good Dom's should know what kind of wax they are using and administer to themselves before administering it to anyone else, to see how hot it is.
Waxing should be enjoyable, not painful.
Now when it comes to waxing my hairy back.....That Friken Hurts!

The experiences I have had with wax have been wonderful....no it didnt hurt (but that comes probably from the experience of my dom) and very sensual. I didnt know that tip about the oil or lotion beforehand as it sometimes is a bit of a bugger to remove afterwards...so thanks for the tip:-)

Nuke718 -> RE: Wax (8/29/2005 6:35:37 PM)

Very thorough answer EmeraldSlave2, much more complete than I would have said. I would like to second fastlane tho, and advise the person administering the wax to try a little on themsleves, especially if they are using a new wax source, or several wx sources in play.

I generally use the tall glass church candles, and in different colors. Altho they may all look similar, they can have mildly different heats to them and its good to know which run hotter and which colder. Also scented candles, I have heard, tend to be hotter. I don't use them myself as almost no 2 people like the same smells.

And I like a knife to peel the wax. As mentioned in the knifeplay thread my wax knife is about as sharp as a plastic spatula, but looks/feels great to the waxee.

NakedOnMyChain -> RE: Wax (8/29/2005 10:57:59 PM)

In my experience, I have found that the pain varies and so do the marks. It takes a deft touch to keep it from hurting too badly, but unless your dom applies the hot wax very poorly, it shouldn't leave any kind of lasting mark. This may be just me, but if you attempt to disperse the wax over a larger surface area (not a buildup all in one place), it tends to hurt less and leave a lesser mark. You can layer once it dries, but it tends to be much more intense if you go for a large amount in one spot all at once.

Thank you all for your responses now i am even more eager to try it. Oh by the way Emerald i was talking about wax play should have been clearer.

Hi Aquariansub,
You are most welcome. I actually learned that at a Black Rose Society presentation. I'm such a lucky sub to have found I'm kinky and found Black Rose in the same month. The presentations they have have taught me loads of little tips like that one.
Have a Great Day,
