What is your favourite piece of CLASSICAL music, and may I ask why, does it conjure up a favourite scene for you?

Me, I am just listening to' Siegfried's funeral march' from' Wagner's Twighlight of the Gods', a truly beautiful piece of music, and it is a reminder for one of my favourite films, the film from whence my signature comes from on this site.

I also like 'Sibelius's Finlandia suite', 'Tallis fantasia', by Thomas Tallis and good ole Gustav Holst's Planets suite.

Finlandia reminds me of the wildness of the land, Tallis Fantasia, er, I forget why on that one, but it has been in my listening collection for years, a favourite which does not go stale.

The Planets suite has a very good effect, you know when you have those days that you feel out of sorts, but cannot put the finger on the problem, well the planets suite has a very good ability of sorting out that feeling, as it in listening takes you through various feelings.

Now, what about the rest of you?

Dimitri Shastakovitch, Symphony #11.

The reason it sticks in my head is because of where and when I first heard it... I was dating an astronomy major at the time, and she was in charge of the campus planetarium that night. After the last show, just before Xmas break, I was there helping her secure the equipment. She put that music on, dimmed the lights, and we had a very nice round of sex under a dome of drifting planets and swirling stars... Nothing BDSM, but it was unique! That particular music shifts back and forth between this low, mysterious passage, and rather militaristic interludes... She varied the action with the music.

I can't pick just one.  Three come to mind:    Schubert, the Great C Major --  for just pure majesty.   Barber, Adagio for Strings -- the sexiest piece of music I know, with incredible pacing coming to an amazing climax.  And the first act of Carmen, for humor, beauty and humanity.

I've always thought that Stravinsky's "The Firebird" is also great music to fuck/scene to. All those deeply romantic themes, then when you get to the "Infernal Dance," things get intense... a bit of a cool down, then... the greatest orgasm fanfare ever composed.

(and don't try to argue with me about either "thus Spake Zarathustra" or "Bollero"... In the first case, the rest of that composition sounds like a cowboy movie... in the second, it's overused, and I can't get the image of Bo Derek running down the beach in slo mo, those beads in her hair giving her shoulders an impact scene all their own. Too distracting.)

Cheesy, perhaps, but I love Bolero.  The Philadelphia Orchestra did a great interpretation.  The buildup and passion in it is beautiful.  I love Vivaldi also.

I just have to ask... (just because I'm a little twisted this way...) Have you and yours even spent a... er... romantic evening... in full costume and makeup, with Jerry Goldsmith's "Klingon Battle" (from the first film) playing on repeat in the background?

Several Klingon fan friends have said that it's become almost an anthem to their lovemaking at cons...
