        Balkanizing Reagan:  Huffington Post

Funny stuff, and he actually does it without any hate-speech.

Rich:
I agree it is both funny and spot on.
As for the lack of "hate speech" perhaps you might give us your definition of just what "hate speech" is.  He did after all suggest rather strongly that "Dubya" should be bitch slapped with a chain mail gloved fist.[;)]

I've decided to run for the Presidency...and I'm making Reagan my VP.

Huffington is a woman

(That may very well be true...but the fellow that wrote the article on "HuffingtonPost.com", that the OP referred to in his post....has a definitive "outie")

<snipped>

"Curiously, two names you never hear mentioned in these celebrity look-a-like pageants are "George" and "Bush." The President is studiously being avoided like a broken pallet of eight penny nails in the center lane of the Beltway."

This guy is very good with a phrase. That one made me lol.

As an aside,so what if Hoffington is a woman?WTF does that matter?

rosanegra -> RE: How to make fun of Republicans (1/20/2008 9:03:22 AM)

Tehehehe. My slightly left of center, slightly libertarian self found this very funny.. especially since it is, you know, mostly true :)

TheHeretic -> RE: How to make fun of Republicans (1/20/2008 9:49:16 AM)

At this point, Thom, suggesting our current President could do with a "be here now" smack on the head is pretty mild, wouldn't you say?

TheHeretic -> RE: How to make fun of Republicans (1/20/2008 9:52:43 AM)

This was the line where my snickering got louder...

Romney went so far as to appropriate Reagan's bulletproof hair, undoubtedly garnering the Secret Service's endorsement due to the added protection his hard candy shell would provide in the unlikely event he adopts a single position long enough to get a bead on.

Rich:
A "be here now" smack in the head is somewhat milder than a "bitch slap with a chain mail gloved fist".  Neither of which is the point of my question.
While neither of us is trying to defend bush&co. you seem to be intrinsically invested in spin.  I asked you to define "hate speech" and how it is different than what Mr. Durst said.

Actually there is a Mr. Huffington, but he is a cocksucker, which is why there is a Ms. Huffington and not a Mrs. Huffington[;)].

Thom;  Just because you ask someone to wander down a belligerent tangent of overlong quotes and headache inducing fonts doesn't mean I'm obliged to follow.  Google it.

I am not trying to be belligerent.  I am just trying to get you to define your terms...that way you have less wiggle room when I point out when you have both feet in your mouth at the same time[;)].

Was it real or fake Republicans who put him in office?
If it was real Republicans who did it then they are responsible for what we have now.
If it was the fake Republicans who did it then we should hunt them down like the scurrilous dawgs they are and glare at them in a most disapproving manner.

Feric -> RE: How to make fun of Republicans (1/20/2008 2:23:40 PM)

It amuses me when politicians invoke Regan's name like he's some kind of saint. The man took nine vacations in seventeen months of office, said trees caused pollution, proposed tax breaks for schools that practice segregation, tripled the national debt, and oversaw the worst decline in infrastructure in the country's history. For all his talk about the evils of government spending, Reagan was the biggest spender in the country's history, although George W. Bush has since outstripped that record.

TheHeretic -> RE: How to make fun of Republicans (1/20/2008 2:34:14 PM)

And the author does a very nice job of completely ignoring the aspect of Reagan's philosophy most likely to play a role in the election.  National security, and negotiating from a position of strength.  That's the mantle of Reagan the Dems haven't been able to touch.  So they pretend it doesn't exist, and that the USSR simply crumbled on its own

I often wish the outcome of this election wasn't going to be so critical (jmo).  I'd love to be able to just make popcorn, and treat it as a spectator sport.

Oh, and Feric, you might do better trying to mock Reagan if you use example that haven't been discredited...

Feric -> RE: How to make fun of Republicans (1/20/2008 4:16:33 PM)

I'm not mocking Reagan, I'm just pointing out that he was not the messiah that pundits are trying to make of him.

As for the tree-pollution article you cite, note the middle paragraph "...release nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere that combine with other pollutants to form smog." The keyword is "with other pollutants". As for the danger of a coniferous forest, I'll make a bet with you: I'll stand in an enclosed room with twenty pine trees, while you stand in an equally enclosed room with twenty cars operating at full power and we'll see who passes out first.

While some things may be true on the whole they are not necessarily the whole truth.
