We can acknowledge the hard truths and realities,w/out flaming. True, having his large estate and home, turned into the national cemetery, was a humiliation, but fitting. Many, many more lost everything they had, their families and loved ones, their homes and lives. The cock-sure swagger and arrogance of some leaders, made that war continue on and on,till men were dying by the thousands.Forget the number of injured and maimed.Forget the amount homes and farms that burned, and the shear injustice and lawlessness, that happens when hordes of armed men swarm around. Though he lost Arlington,he suffered the loss like a man.It wasn`t that he wanted to impress folks ,it was how he acted his whole life.I could be wrong, but I don`t think he was political. Owner I think we finally found something that you and I agree on. Lee took his defeat like a man. He never complained, and I think he was just glad that horrible war was over with. Lee publicly condemned Boothe for killing Lincoln, and he didn't do that to be placate the North. He was a man of principle, and he did not abide murdering thugs like Boothe. I did not start this thread to take away from Dr. King. I admire him too. He was a man too, and it pisses me off when my fellow southernors deride him. I came close to getting in a fist fight a few years ago because one of my co-workers called MLK day, "Earl Ray Day." I don't tolerate that ignorant shit, and I encourage others to say something when they hear it. Dr. King stood up against tyranny, and he deserves recognition for that despite his personal shortcomings. I stand behind anyone that fights against injustice.
