The government is proposing an $800 tax "rebate", what would you do with it? (Non-US folks, feel free to respond too).

Is this something that will turn against us next year at tax refund time (as in reduce our refund by the rebate amount)?  If so, I already don't like it.

Didn't get squat last time, probably wouldn't get anything this time, either.

Good question, Katy; I'm not sure. I don't think so, but.......

I get the first vote! Woo-Hoo!

I probably won't get a rebate, because I didn't file or pay taxes last year (SS Disability is non-taxable). But if I got one, I would use it to get some new wheelchair tires, some new clothes, and lots of sugar-free candy.

Can't eat too much of the candy on any one day, though.

If this impacts my tax refund then I can't spend it.  I use my refunds for emergencies throughout the year.  Last year it paid for a new water heater and some expenses for my college-kid.

I have always wanted a concubine.  I just hope that $800 will cover it.

We will more than likely save it.  Although I like your gold idea.  Been seriously looking into investing lately.
The US market is so depressed already.

I'd buy a pig, in that case.  I always wanted a porkupine!   LOL

Hmmmm… tough choices.

I was discussing this with a friend from work last night. My immediate thought to hearing the idea was “Sure, someone else wanting to throw peanuts at the clowns.” (My perception of their perception, not my own.)

But, since we are living in a country where it seems to be every man, woman, and unmentionable for themselves; I think I will bury mine in a mason jar somewhere out in the woods. It won’t really get me far right now, but in a few years, who knows.

If you don't someone else will.

I understand your point, but don't you think you could find good use for it, even if you don't spend it on yourself?

Hunkboy,

Yeah, that's how i feel about it too. I wouldn't bother if I thought it would be put to good use. Then again, if it were being put to good use, they wouldn't need to offer it.

I'm guessing the only reason for this is to fire up the economy.  They want us to take that $800 and spend it immediately.  Am I wrong?

That's exactly it, from what I gather, the last thing they want us to do is save it.
