Fat Dom, it is pretty well established that it is ocean currents that have the greatest effect Glaciers near the ocean. The article you cited puts most of the blame on them. Some people think the ocean currents are affected by the atmosphere, and undoubtedly they are to some degree, its all interconnected. Also the article says the volcano may be making the glacier move faster. Whether it thins or not depends on how much snow gets put in every year, not just how fast it ejects ice. Volcanos do not go off at a regular rate. They are like meteors and a wild card in modeling.
