http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagniappe

I posted the definition, and I hope you enjoy the history of the word...but in this instance, I just mean "a little something extra".

So, how much of your relationship or future relationship is meat and potatos and how much is lagniappe?

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Lagniappe (1/23/2008 1:22:35 AM)

Id say 50/50

TreasureKY -> RE: Lagniappe (1/23/2008 3:38:17 AM)

A great word, spanklette.  [:D]

I'd have to say that the bulk of our relationship is meat and potatos... nutritous, sustaining, and satisfying.  If that "little something extra" wasn't rare and unexpected, it would lose it's specialness and not be lagniappe, wouldn't it?

ELUSIVE1 -> RE: Lagniappe (1/23/2008 3:59:08 AM)

very cool word spankette=I will use it as my 'word of the day'....yeah I know I am such a geek

Dnomyar -> RE: Lagniappe (1/23/2008 4:17:50 AM)

The heck with lagniappe. You subs should ask how is your future with Dnomyar.

DesFIP -> RE: Lagniappe (1/23/2008 5:14:20 AM)

The relationship; the mutual love, admiration and respect is the meat and potatoes. The kink is the little extra tidbit. Very special but not something that by itself satisfies and satiates.

On a trip to New Orleans, where the majority of the cabs are independent, I had the good fortune to ride in fabulously decorated vintage (1966) Cadillac. The driver was a colorful character and had no end of stories and anecdotes to pass the time with. Once we arrived at the hotel he helped with my bags and then handed me a little booklet of restaurants he personally recommended. I thanked him and his was reply was...."Thank you sir, that is my lagniappe to you."

In our relationship we both like to give a little something extra or an unexpected gift. If you got a lagniappe every day it would render them less special somehow. Once in a while makes them appreciated.

The word itself has no baring on our relationship as it is mutual and we give and take in different ways.
However, a little something extra happens, but not so as to put a percentage.  Even the meat and potatoes is a little something extra.

Being a born and raised coonass from southwest Louisiana, lagniappe is widely used here in Cajun Country.  I love the word...it's fun to say.  It is practiced everyday here.  In fact, when Mistress says She's going to encase me in layers of rubber and put two hoods on me, She'll even put a third hood on me for lagniappe!  She may be a Motor City girl and live in West Virginia, but She's learning some new and creative methods from this crazy Cajun! [:D]

As for the meat and potatos question, I'd have to say the love and romance we have for each other is the meat, while the D/s and the lust of rubber is the potatos.  The many years we'll spend together in the future is the lagniappe![:)]

All this talk of beignets in your definition is making me hungry.  I hope you're happy!  Laissez les bon temps rouler!!! [:D]

LadyLynx -> RE: Lagniappe (1/23/2008 6:50:55 AM)

at my local new age shop, last time I was there, the store clerk added an amythist stone,(which he knew was my fave stone. really small one tho.) and a couple packs of good insense. I didn't even buy much. he just said, your a good customer, always pleasent, and you actually know what your talking about.  I know that is getting off of the subject alittle bit. But I don't really have anyone in my life right now. (yet. been talking to a really sexy Dom that makes me really weak in the knees.)

spanklette -> RE: Lagniappe (1/24/2008 12:02:05 AM)

Thank y'all for all of the wonderful responses, and I have to confess that I've been wanting to use the word "lagniappe" excessively, of late. You've all given me fabulous thoughts and wonderful little stories to think about in the Pacific Northwest where no one has any idea what the word lagniappe means.

Just a little coonass trying to change the world!

Emperor1956 -> RE: Lagniappe (1/24/2008 12:18:18 AM)

Spanklette (and all)  thanks.   If you liked lagniappe (and who doesn't?)  here's a sort of similar word for you all:

Cumshaw

A present or gratuity, often a piece of needed equipment that appears when needed (while at the same time a similar item disappears from another unit). A cumshaw artist is generally prized within a unit for his or her ability to provide-and few questions are asked. From the old Chinese term "kam sia" meaning grateful thanks. The term was used at the start of World War II to describe payoffs by Honolulu's Hotel Street prostitutes to local police officials.

The definition above is from the Marine Corps Dictionary.  Granted, a not always reliable source, but OH so colorful (the Oxford Abridged defines "cumshaw" as a tip or gratuity...how DULL.   But its a real word, a fun word...and...sort of even sounds a bit nasty, eh?  Consider it my langiappe to you.

E.

It does sound dirty! I will endeavor to use it as soon as possible.

Justme696 -> RE: Lagniappe (1/24/2008 2:59:01 AM)

I don't see how the word fits in in a relation, but well we could always need some extra sex

BossySSBBW -> RE: Lagniappe (1/26/2008 8:55:33 AM)

Lagniappe is always free.  It is an added something to your experience for free.

I couldn't have said it better, Treasure. What I want in my next relationship is just what you describe, with the unexpected little pleasure thrown in. And of course, I'll give my submissive the same!
