Status: offline 		I agree with that to a point. Accepting freedom of speech does not mean acceptance of intolerance or incitement to cause emotional/physical harm to others. I'm not sure what the laws are in the US regarding people exercising their freedom of speech, it is an offence in the UK for people to single out specific target groups and picket with the intention of causing distress. There is a huge distinction between making a public statement, that falls into the category of freedom of speech, than those who deliberately target a single person, or group based on ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and with the intention of causing them/their families/friends personal distress.

You start mouthing off about an ethnic group, for example, and you not only will get the shit kicked out of you before the cops arrive, you'll also be dragged off by the cops when they get there.

I honestly can't understand why something legal can't be done about these arsewipes.

Status: offline 		i heard a comment about freedom of speach in a movie that struck a cord.

freedom of speach means that someone has the right to stand up and say things that you would spend the rest of your life against....its not a direct quote but its close enough.......and it makes a good point. I hate some of the crap that comes out of peoples mouths but I fought for their right to do so.......and to the same point I have the right to stand up and rally against whatever it is they are saying......
some people use this to say some really stupid shit in my opinion...but it is their right to do so.

edited because im to tired and had a few to many spelling errors even for me.

Status: offline 		-shakes head- i just saw the video and when you upset both the conservative and the democrat to the point of a near arguement and break objectivity that is quite an accomplishment because though i don't like fox news but those two are better then most on there and that women...her "smile" scares me because all that spews from her mouth is bullshit.
i believe in free speech, but somethings should be sacred. Let the family at least have their peace before you pummel them with hate.

Status: offline 		okay i finally calmed down enough to get all the way through the article about hese people........these people are the reason that some feel the first amendment should be rescended......... they go and protest funerals of fallen soldiers and now this funeral.......im surprised someone hasnt shot these people yet......i looked them up and apparently they have had 14 members put in the hospital in the last year alone from protesting soldiers funerals.......lmao.........go families go.

Status: offline 		Scifi, I have no problem with people making a public statement/attending ralleys, etc... in support of their personal beliefs, however, would you feel these people still have the right to come into your personal space, i.e, a funeral of a loved one, someone you have only just begun to grieve over and on the day you are legally putting them to rest, and disrupt what should be a peaceful day of respect by deliberately attempting to incite hatred... would you still defend those rights of freedom of speech? There's a fine line in protecting one's freedom of speech and also enabling antisocial characters to perpetuate their hatred at someone else's expense.

These people don't protest peacefully to put their views across, they are in your face screaming obscenities and telling people they are happy their loved ones are dead. They are advocating 'cleansing' of those with alternative sexualities... if this scum was advocating the cleansing of ethnic minorities they would be made to feel the full force of the judicial system, I'm sure. Yet b/c they are inciting people to 'cleanse' homosexuals it's pretty much 'okay'?

Status: offline 		first read my second post.....while i dont like these people or think they should have any right to do this....unfortunately they do. personally id liketo go to one of these military funerals these idiots go to to protest and beat the ever living crap out of a few of them. thats my freedom of expression.......i dont think a jury in the country would convict me....lol.
no i dont think they should have the right to do this......i dont defend their right to do this........but they do......sad but true.
also the southern poverty law center has classified this group as a hate group...the baptist church has also spoken against these people. these are not just religious fanatics these are white supremists......basically these people are another kkk.

Status: offline 		What I find curious, Scifi, is that their actions deviate from a simple action of freedom of speech b/c they invite themselves, without invitation, into people's personal lives to deliberately cause emotional anguish by disrupting the funerals of those people who are the targets of their hatred, yet it seems it is legally tolerated. Those aggrieved have to take out civil actions against the WBC. We all know that people have a right to take to the streets in protest of their cause, provided it is peacefully done. Yet the law seems to enable the WBC's actions.

One of the chat shows here in the UK had the phelps family via satellite on the show - The mother and her two daughters. Apparently there is also a son but he did not agree with their beliefs nor of their methods of abusing people to force their points of view across, the mother openly said that he was no longer a son of hers as a result and the hatred she spews was vented towards him also, so that gives a clear indication of the degree in which they are willing to go to in order to bully people into hearing their views. So why is it lawful for the WBC to attend personal functions and disrupt them... that, for me, goes way beyond the freedom of speech.

Status: offline 		I think that a hollywood funeral by its very nature is perfect place for them to get  their "message" out there. All the beautiful people attending with their droves of paparrazzi, its a perfect chance for them.
They thrive on the hate, it proves to them that their path is justified. Yes Ive read and watched manythings about these people...morbid curiosity I know.
