ABC News just now did a piece on Diabetes, and said there is a study going on at the Diabetes Clinic at the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital…where Diabetes is on the rise. It was stated that across the country there are 4000 new Diabetes diagnoses every day, and that while cancer and coronary-vascular deaths are on the decrease, deaths from Diabetes are up 45% in just the last two decades. [God help us…when will we change how we eat?] The ABC Health piece went on to say Type II Diabetes is the most difficult problem, with obesity as the primary problem, and said the disease is the primary cause of blindness, kidney disease, amputations and both heart attacks and stroke; that there are ¼ Million deaths by Diabetes every year! And this is on the rise! [Lordy, why is it ‘I have Diabetes’ sounds so benign?] The kicker for me was that ABC also said that surgery seems to help!!! That 2/3 of the Diabetes patients who endure a ‘Belly-band’ operation, which restricts the amount of food a stomach can hold, find all signs of their Diabetes disappears! Okay, great news, right? I mean, this report points directly at weight loss being a cure! But I’ll tell ya…with all the crap a person can catch while in the hospital, combined with the risks associated with any surgery and especially this ‘Belly-band’ thang…I’d rather just change my diet. What I want to know is when is the AMA going to repair that ridiculous food triangle they promote and help Americans slim down? We cannot keep eating 1500 calories in one fell swoop at a drive-through (burger, fries and a soda), or even just the cereal, toast and orange juice the damn doctors tell us is a ‘sensible breakfast’!!! When will it end? I say: Make it stop!!! People…wake up!!! OMFG… I went to ABC to post the link they suggested following; for more information, yanno? I did, and this is the header: Obesity Surgery May Cure Diabetes for Many Surgery May Beat Standard Care in Diabetes Battle, Researchers say http://abcnews.go.com/Health/DiabetesResource/story?id=4172439&page=1 GAWD…I get that we are an ‘impatient’ people; but surgery is touted as ‘better’ than standard care? Christ…is the AMA out to get us or what??? What say you? Are you ready to just say NO? I am... Beverly
