Kudos to you for taking her on, and giving her a chance at a better life! Seriously then, get her spayed, and give it about a month afterwards for the hormones to clear her system - it will make a world of difference. You'll also minimise the risk of her attempting to spray urine around the place as well. You might have to pay a little bit more for the operation, seeing as how she is now a "mature" cat, which makes it a little trickier to spay them.
