Whew, some nasty thoughts rising this morning. I juts watched an episode of Criminal Minds that got me thinking. Yes Master, I am holding this one for you, but, the story only sparked the thoughts, not paralled them.

Everything that we do leaves marks upon our bodies, our minds, our souls if you will. Some types of work leave callouses on the hands, others can embed debris in the skin or etch the signs of stress upon our faces. Life leaves marks.

We, those of us who delve into the darkness that is the soul and heart of BDSM, collect them as badges of courage and wear them proudly. At the end of our lives, the book of our lives is read by those who may have little clue as to the story we were really trying to write. Police, Coroners, Morticians all read the story of our lives in the marks embedded deep in muscle and tissue. They see the brands, the burns, the points of electrical contact, the areas where sharps were played with. They can track every cane stroke that crossed our flesh and bit into muscle beneath.

How many understand the willingness of it? How many turn and read the story and misinterpret it as domestic abuse?  Few enough I suspect as even with a living record they have charged that people cannot agree to their own abuse or assault. Few enough as they have arrested some in the past for agreeing to something that another has wanted and charged them with manslaughter and other felonies. Even if there is record of the search, the need and desire, it is still illegal.

And so if we are smart we leave a track, a record in places like this and hope and pray for the best. We persevere in our search for the right hand, the right Master, the feelings that tear us from ourselves and springboard us into ecstacy, the service that we need to give and recieve and write our stories in our flesh, hearts and souls. We do everything within our power to protect those who feed our flesh with the pain and passion we desire. Slave, Sub and Master, Mistress and pray that at the end of our days, the person who reads the story  understands it was written with love, honor and need.

I just recently posted this to our Journal and began to think that maybe it was something that others had thought about as well. Our mortality is not often something we think about in our 20's and 30's but having just reached 55 this week, I know the stories written in my flesh for well over 50 years. I would love to hear how others protect their Masters, Mistress's and of course Slaves, and Subs from the world that rarely understands the stories we write in flesh.

when my Lord or Lady leaves marks upon me they always leave them where they will not be seen by the outside world.mostly for concern for all of us because of our lives. i know in the long run as you ahve mentioned that after death morticians and such can still find those marks etched into muscles and such. also for me they are a "badge" of sorts that i wear from the pleasure of my Lord and Lady and sometimes even my own.

as with me i would never leave any visible marks on them,i'm not even allowed to so that's sort of besides the point. but also out of respect i protect their privacy.when i talk about them working locally and away fomr home,i don't give out their names or details about where they work and what they do for a living because i know for one of them it could ultimately cost Her the job She has.

i guess for us protecting eachother is a respect thing in the long run

Wow. Nicely said.

I’ll be honest. I like abuse…and not in the sense of BDSM. I mean in the literal sense of what most would classify as abuse. It’s what draws me; what calms my mind; and what allows me to see the beauty and light in a world of darkness.

I have burns, scars, brandings, piercing, tatts, knife cuts that have left scars…all done deliberately with one thing in mind…to cause as much pain as possible. The only difference is that I welcome that kind of pain; it frees me and let’s me be me.

With that said, I have never hidden my way of life from anyone; not doctors who have treated my broken bones, cuts, burns…all of it. I have always been glaringly honest about what caused them, who, and why. My life is my own; no one tells me I can or can not do something simply because society does not understand or accept it. It’s the way I was raised; and it’s the way I have raised my UM’s.

When I finally pass on; I hope that who ever reads the marks left on my soul will see the freedom in them; and not let biased opinions form an untruth as to how my life was lived.

Darkness?  There isn't any darkness.  Well, no more or less darkness that is in the sould and heart of most Vanilla relationships, in any event.  My Mom and Dad's relationship?  Yeah, that was a heart and soul of darkness.

My relationship with my Owner?  It's a bright, warm light.

By entering into every action with eyes as wide as possible, and understanding, someone somewhere will hold me to account for everything I have done. No maybe's about it. Whether it's a police officer, or God, I believe we ultimately answer for what we do, so act with conviction, and sound reasoning.

No more or less than is in most vanilla relationships? I agree to a point. I saw some "vanilla" relationships that scared the living hell out of me when I worked for a Rape Crisis Spouse Abuse Center. There are dark places in every ones soul and mind I suspect. We, consentually, bring them into the light in our own lives. Our dark desires are given a voice and place in our lives that allow them to be done with some modicum of safety. After all a broken toy is no fun to play with and those who break their toys on a regular basis above and beyond what that toy can survive generally find themselves either without partners/toys or guests of the state.

Does everyone Vanilla and Rocky Road have a desire for subjugation, branding, whips and chains in the bedroom not to mention the occasional farm implement? Perhaps in their fantasy lives many Vanilla women do, after all someone is buying all those bodice rippers and Vampire/Werewolf/Date from hell books. The same has to go for the True Crime books and magazines. I suspect we who classify as Rocky Road do not keep those book purveyors in business through our numbers alone. When I spoke of the darkness that is the soul and heart of BDSM, I spoke of those needs, desires and fantasies that we bring into the light of our relationships and to fruition. I was not speaking of it as a negative thing, only as an acknowledgement that these are not the flags that we often wave in the faces of those we work with, or call our relatives. Few of us I suspect walk into the work on a monday morning, grinning in the face of our co-workers and say" Oh Man I had a wonderful weekend, I was slapped, whipped, cut, burned and twisted into a pretzel for 8 WONDERFUL hours!" at least not in the same way as many Vanilla dish about the great date they had that weekend. Now not everyone discusses their weekends at work with co-workers, but I suspect we do so far less than is the medial norm. Then again, your mileage may vary.

Ok
BUT...it had better be good

LOL

BlackPhx....I understand what you mean about the darkness in the soul  , though I would argue that for me, it has nothing to do with BDSM. BDSM arouse BECAUSE of the darkness in my soul . It gave me an outlet that I could utilize on a regular basis.

Hey originality counts for everything with me.
Any fool can swing a flogger (not well admittedly but they can do it)

But it takes true originality to do something innovative with a turkey baster.

that is a well worded post BlackPhx

And how true, it's not something we think about when our end of days comes about, who will see them or what they will make of the marks on our flesh. For me, I beleive there is only one thing you truly own in this life, everything else can be lost, stolen, sold etc but our bodies, our flesh is the one thing we truly own (we can do all those things to it, but really at the end of the day it's our own thoughts that live in this skin of ours)

To give authority of our bodies to another is an amazing gift and the marks of what we have done or do is an intresting map. I love bruises and the little marks that came from diffrent impliments, they are almost like a badge of honor at times, I earned the marks *s* I feel that way about tattoo's and piercings tho, I like them to have meaning. It's not  about darkness it's about making life as full as possible and that comes with a price,it can wear on our bodies. But who wants to pull into the finish line looking all shiny and new *s* I know I don't.:)

I agree....I don't see any darkness. I see I am different. I see that I like and desire things some people find shocking and some others  yawn it....Darkness?....no way....
