yeah ... a few ...

Photo clues are breadcrumbs in lost camera mystery

At dusk on New Year's Eve, Erika Gunderson got into a taxi in New York City and entered a digital-age mystery.

Sitting on the back seat was a nice Canon digital camera. Gunderson asked the driver which previous passenger might have left it, but the cabbie didn't seem to care. So Gunderson brought it home and showed it to her fiance, Brian Ascher. They decided that the only right thing to do was to find the owner.

But how? The only clues were the pictures on the camera: typical tourist snapshots, complete with a visit to the Statue of Liberty. How could they find a stranger among the huddled masses?

It's so nice to know there are some really honest people left in this world.  Unfortunately, I probably would have given up after contacting the TL&C and enjoyed my new camera.[8|]

We get so many "ahh, crap, bad ... Bad ... BAD people" stories, I just thought I might share this one.

Kinda like a murder mystery, in reverse. [:)]

And involving three different continents, too!

Moral of the story?  Leave your contact info on your valuables if you plan on taking them outside of the house.  Even if it's just a snap shot of a piece of paper with your legiable contact info on it that you don't delete.

Even honest people shouldn't have to go so far out of their way to make up for someone else's clumsiness. :P

Well, I gotta say ...

I haven't lost my keys (car, house) since I was a young lad, until about 4 months ago, when I lost my set twice.

After the first time, Treasure made me a engraved tag with my name and cell phone number to attach to the key ring.

It's been two months since I lost them the second time ... and no one has called me yet. [sm=ugh.gif]

Darnit.

There must be at least one somewhere.

In about 1995, hanging out in Central Park, I found an SLR with a lense bag full of lenses, at least a thousand bucks of camera gear, sitting on a bench. I sat there with it for an hour until the German tourists who'd left it came back for it.

You know, it's going to be a great story someday when they are finally returned to you... ten years later.  [;)]
