"Don't Mistake The Thorn On A Rose As A Bad Thing. Without The Thorn, There Would Be No Pain. Without Pain, There Would Be No Release."

I wrote this on my 360 blast. What other types of experiences would cause a release for you? It does not have to be sexual in nature, but interested about how many use sex as their only form of release?

OedipusRexIt -> RE: Releases (1/27/2008 12:42:33 AM)

I've done some encounter-group things that have provided great cathartic release.   I've also gotten signficant release from mastering a goal (a long run, a hard ski-trip).

For everyday release, I have a heavy punching bag.  Sometimes, I put a face on it...

I'm not sure I have one.... I just kinda grin and bear it. Pain was never a release for me...rather it reminded me i could feel....

I have noticed that there are so many wounded folks on CM. Wounded but survivors too. I was just the opposite, I didn't need pain to remind me that I could feel as physically I had no problems "feeling". Emotionally, I could not feel for years and years. I had outlets, but I wouldn't feel comfortable talking about them here. The point is, I think that everyone needs an outlet to help them release something. Whether it is physical or emotional.
Thank you for sharing breathasone.

Thank you for responding. What kind of things did you use in your group setting to satisfy releases? I understand about mastering a goal and the satisfaction of knowing that I have accomplished something that I set out to do.
Masturbation has always been a great stress release for me, but it isn't the be-all end-all of releasing stress. I rather like the punching bag with the face on it <g>

I know one thing, if I don't have any kind of relief from stress or pain or...whatever..I feel like my head will explode. I end up hurting myself more by NOT releasing than I do by choosing the wrong way to release.

LordMarkus -> RE: Releases (1/27/2008 2:04:19 AM)

To talk about a fear is a good release form. It depends on who ear you and is important too but to talk it is the real point, even to your self.
To leave run the tears if is neccesary is a big release experience. I don't beleave in the "males don't cry" thing because the guys who say this normally cry when are drunked or when their psychological defenses are down for other reason, but when someone cry with consciousness about why is crying then it becomes in a strong release experience.
Other release experiences for stress or for a mind or ideas or inspiration blockade comes with good music. To sing in high voice no matter who ear you or just let fly the imagination with powerfull and epic music, or even to find in the music the correct words for express an idea or celebrate something as a succes ia a release experience too.
After all as Beethoven says: The music is the firestone than makes grow the human fire

I have always found release in hard physical work.
Now I am doing it again I am fine but I went through a long time in my life when I didn't do any and the resultant stress brought me to break down completely.
I also sing as catharsis. Choosing songs unconsciously that engage the audience in what is going on in my head.
I have also learnt how to share my trauma with others that it might help on the message boards here. Writing about things has helped me a great deal.
I wish you well in finding what works for you.
Of course if I had a sub the release would be through pain for both of us.
Controlling the urge to hit someone is one of the greatest pressures in my life.

Hi Lord Markus, thank you and welcome to the forums.
I was going to mention singing, as it is a major release for me. I love to sing and I do it every chance I get. Crying..Sheesh, don't even get me started on the "real men don't cry" argument. I agree with you on this, to see a grown man cry while he is drunk is one the saddest things, especially if it is coming from the same  "real men don't cry" camp. I should hope that parents are moving away from that horrid brain washing trend that so many people my age fell victim to. Real men DO cry and I don't care who agrees with me on this.
I used to exercise when I was angry. I would run around the block til I couldn't take another step. I suppose it was better than hitting the wall (How many times do we hear men say this?) [:@]

Lateralist,
I am in total agreement on this. I don't like pain, but I love to give it. Giving it is part of the release that I was talking about in my quote. I wrote that especially for my sub at the time. I taught him that there is no difference between pain and pleasure as they both gave him the sense of release he always longed for. Being in my restraints was his greatest freedom.
Lack of having a sub, I will often take my flogger out and hit a pillow. No, it doesn't scream or moan, but I do get some release just holding the flogger in my hand, it makes me feel "at home". You may try that, if the urge to hit someone knocks on your door again [:D]

Sex as release form just always works temporarely for me...same with hard working...  when it stops..the stress or tension comes back.
The real way..and this is gonna sound to easy ..I know..is to solve the problem or at least talk about it..analyse it...try to give it a place.

daddysliloneds -> RE: Releases (1/27/2008 2:42:04 AM)

my forms of release:

sex, masochism, yard work, work, massage, cooking/baking, hot bath

Justme,
You always come up with some of the easiest answers and yet they make so much sense. Thank you :)

liljoy -> RE: Releases (1/27/2008 2:46:55 AM)

Release? i'm not sure i understand. What do you feel after you do these activities that let's you know you've found release? After i do some of the activities listed i just feel glad that they are over.

In what way liljoy?

The original question was "What other types of experiences would cause a release for you? It does not have to be sexual in nature, but interested about how many use sex as their only form of release?"

I suppose my pup summed it all up with this comment "There is no better release than when You release my pain". I was wondering if there was another way to get your kink release without using sex. The thread started to go sideways a bit, by the offering of other release forms from anger and emotional pain.

You mentioned in your post, that you feel glad that it is over. Are you talking about yard work? sex? floggings? Talking? Singing? Plus the other ideas mentioned on this thread?

Curious minds and all... <smile>

There is nothing better than "make up sex" when the emotions are still riding high and feelings are raw and vulnerable. Of course that alone could work against  you. But most times for me, it doesn't. It's all good <s>

liljoy -> RE: Releases (1/27/2008 3:05:33 AM)

i'm thinking a beating, hard pysical labor or running. After those i'm just glad they are over. i don't feel any kind of release.
Talking doesn't usually do much to cause anything that i would call a release either. Singing maybe and in a way that causes pain for anyone hearing me sing lol

Play loud music and sing along at the top of my (off key) voice.  Getting lost in a good book.  Watching a movie that makes me cry.

Thank you for clearing that up liljoy. I have to ask though, if these things don't help you release, what do you find helpful? Besides singing to people who will be in pain from your singing? [sm=biggrin.gif]
