I have recently begun training in Muai Tai, my trainer wants to do it every night of the week and twice as long on the weekends; this said, when we were taking a break yesterday the topic of how men would see women who actively participate in such activites; he said for him, it's a turn on and he would appreciate the contrast in seeing her not only as a 'fighter' but as a lady as well.  The man who is training me is vanilla and knows nothing of this side of me, an I don't intend on brining it up until he brings it up or the like, but what we talked about did get me thinking.

My questions is.. how to top-types [male in particular] feel about a bottom-type that participates in such activities and sports??

Your trainer is a close friend I'm assuming, kind of a strange topic of conversation if not i'm just thinking.

Hell any of my instructors or Senseis woulda beaten my ass if I asked for a break so...ahem, anyway.

Speaking as both a a male who is a submissive in a BDSM context, as well as someone who in vanilla terms has had relationships where my girlfriends where well versed in various forms and thus in a way the "dominant" one...even though I was kinda canoodled into it, strange vanilla girls...I can say I enjoy it, as it gives me the idea that whoever I was with had a sense of independance and ability to watch out for herself, a strength of character. And beyond all that it really helped that there was another thing that me and her had in commen, and since martial arts is a big part of who I am, it was a commenality that kept me rather happy.

And of course being put in a situation where normally I would have to beat some guys's ass for getting a little too "close", it was a rather refreshing experience that instead, said girlfriend would instead flip Mr. Grabby on his head, initate wrist lock, and maybe even go and dislocate a finger or two...all while I just sat back with a beer and watched.

<sigh> Good times... really...happy...fun...good times...

That contrast is extraodinarily attractive to me personally for a variety of reasons, some of whcih are quite to explain.

My Master's opinion is that he appreciates anything that makes his submissive a stronger, more well rounded person.

muay thai makes you a worthy openent to your Master, perhaps it might intimidate him. I hope you learn to hold your reflexes back...and elbow or a knee towards him might not be a good idea ;)
I did myself a few year muay thai and then switched back to kick boxing to reduce damage to my head while studying. We had ladies in our group. It is impressive to see female fighting machines.
I had no problem to see them as ladies. Although extreme training might change your body and shape, your body will start to look more male like. But that is an other issue.
Besides all of the above..I like my sub/slave to just have fun in anything.....sports, hobbies..so I wouldn't refuse.

ps.. Do you like the music before the matches   lol

For me being in the arts brought me to my Domme self. I use to punch walls and when my man saw that, it turned him on. I even played knuckels with him when none of his guy friends would. I thought I was a sub for a long time but years of sparring has changed that thought in me. I would rather see you hurt than hurt myself. So now we find subs and slaves together to play as a couple and as equals.

Valyraen loves that I am in martial arts. It's incredibly sexy to him and he actively encourages me to persue my goals in martial arts, including learning other styles and sword fighting. He loves that I can take care of myself and don't need him to defend me physically but that, if needed, I could fight by his side.

I have a journal entry on sketching out some related thoughts on the matter.

Basically, the more capable my girl is on her own, the more meaningful it is that she's turning herself completely over to me. Any nutjob whose life is a mess that needs structure and control can submit to anybody else. There's nothing wrong with that, but there's no added bonus to it either. But the more refined and together the girl is, the less that she overtly needs to submit, and hence the more that she absolutely wants (has?) to? That's quite the turn on.

I am supremely confident in myself and would have no qualms whatsoever about a girl using her martial arts skills to somehow overpower me or not listen. I wouldn't even think of it as an option for her to try. And if she did try to use them to fight back or over power me? It's the same as the nutjob throwing frying pans or shoes or whatever it is girls throw at you. She's not actually that together, she can't quite submit, and she's not for me. But the skills have nothing to do with that.

Besides, there's always the fun potential of having a Lex Luthor/Mercy Graves relationship where I can get into an argument in a bar with some guy and snap my fingers to tell my girl to go kick his ass as I calmly sit back and watch the action.

I have no personal experience with a submissive or bottom who studied martial arts. I would admire the discipline she exhibited much like I do with my own submissive who visits the gym regularly to stay in shape. I wouldn't find it to be any particular turn on or turn off necessarily, but I've never really given it much thought until you posed the question. I could probably devise a way to bring up the topic during play and have a bit of fun with it.

My Daddy paid for me to take a workshop in self defense and he is willing to pay for me to take the full course which lasts 6 weeks. He has a third degree black belt, and if I took an interest in such things I am sure he would be pleased that I wanted to pursue such training. It does not help one in an assault situation, but it does teach discipline, and is a very good workout. Both things he is a proponent of

What could possibly be sexier and more flattering than a powerful "intimidating" woman who chooses to submit to you?

Thanks for the feedback.  I have started to keep a training blog for this off-site since friends from facebook asked; I am actually doing all this intensive training for a project in June and I thought in a few months [possibly 2] I would have enough down for it to work, I was sooo wrong.  I am getting a LOT of stress out and since I am single, it doesn't interfer with a relationship.

As for us taking a break, we had finished.  We do 3min rounds with 30sec breaks [for 90 to 120mins] and want to build up to 5min rounds; we are competing with my asthma so we can't exactly push things too fast at this point.

I'm glad to see that some men aren't intimiated, I was thinking it might be the opposite where tops might look at it as a way of topping or wanting too.

Do you want to look attractive to people who would be so insecure and easily threatened?

I always teach my women how to shoot, everything from silenced submachineguns to beltfed heavy machineguns.  You never know when it might come in handy.  Women are easier to teach than men with very little training can outshoot most of them.

I've been encouraged in martial arts before. Increased flexibility, better endurance, more muscle to lavish with pain!
