Okay this is something that I think is hot but have no real time experience in. I have recently met a wonderful sub who is very into this. As I also think it is hot I would like to learn as much as I can about it. If anyopne knows any resourses for more info....and safety precautions and so on. I would apreciate it.

Main concern with electro stimulation is to NEVER run any current "across" the chest.  In other words, one lead goes to one nipple and the other lead goes to the other nipple.  Electricity travels from point A (1 lead) to point B (2nd lead).  So, hooking up your leads in this manner will run currents across the heart and has been known to cause cardiac arrest.

In fact there is a related  article posted under the "News in BDSM" Forum where death was caused by this.  It seems, however, this fellow was also using direct DC current makine the possibility very high for cardiac arrest, and he placed the leads as I have described above.

That said, the units you buy "specifically" for electroplay, or electrosex, run on the same concept as your chiropractors electro stimulation units.  They are AC current and pretty much harmless.  You can even, fairly safely run the leads across the nipples by placing one lead on one side of the nipple and the other lead on the other side of the same nipple.  In this manner you are only running the current across the nipple and NOT across the chest.  Even still, I would make sure someone had NO KNOWN, OR UNKNOWN health issues regarding the heart.  If there are health issues this may be enough to set something off.  Best bet is to stay below the waist unless you have a partner that can request an ECG from the Dr. for clearance before doing any electro play on the nipples.  If someone is young and healthy, I wouldn't be concerned too much as even the chiropractor will use current above the waist w/o an ECG.  Just use your common sense.
There are different types of stimulators, TENS, PES, Folsum, and a few others.  Just do a "Google" on electroplay, electrosex, or look up the particular manufacturers and you will find all sorts of toys, attachments and ideas.
When you order a unit from most manufacturers, they usually include a little booklet of instruction, ideas, and FAQ's.
It's a LOT of fun and depending on your settings can create sensations from extremely erotic to downright production of blood curdling screams.
ENJOY!!

Check out Uncle Abdul's web site.  Lots of great information on electrical play

btw....the dope in PA essentially plugged his wife into the wall outlet....20amps, 120VAC across her chest. He's Darwin award material for certain.

I was beat to the punch to mention Unc... While his book makes for dry reading it is filled with lots of information as he is well versed in the subject. Also having taken several of his demo classes on electrical play as well as getting to sit down 1-on-1 with Unc to discuss the subject, if you get a chance to go to one of his classes by all means do go.

I'm in the same boat with you, as far as the OP goes.  Just recently purchased a violet wand and have only started out with it.  My sub loves it, but I'm still learning.

We've got both an ErosTek 312 (TENS-like unit) and a violet wand. Given the electronics in our house we also don't use the wand without the power isolation prototype box that I received from Unc and another dominant that was working with him on the design. Both toys have seen a fair amount of use over the years we've had them. Need to earmark some tax refund money for more additions to the electrical play toy bags. They're not cheap but I'd worry about them not being expensive and what might be wrong with them.

Don't use cheap equipment.  Given what electricity gone wrong can do to you, it's going to be much more confidence-inspiring to use equipment that functions safely and well than it is to use equipment that might work but whose safety is guaranteed by no one.

I love electrical play!  We had a violet wand, a tens, and a variety of buzzers and jolters to add to the mix.  The ex was very adept at messing with me.
But I see by this other thread that some people are stupid!  Check it out

love electro...(but also love many tens type machines for dealing with neurological pain in back and fingers and love feeling different pulse combinations)
through nipples and labia
and through my clit as long as any clips used are not too fierce as to cause pinching pain...
as long as the intensity is built up slowly
and combined with a sustained and dull pain like pressure my tolerance goes up fairly quickly....
i just have to put my entire trust in those delivering it

Thanks uys and girls. I have been going through the Unc site. Lots of good stuff on there. I have always found that type of play alot of fun to watch, but as I stated never have tried it. I knew about some of the dangers but not about the difference between ac and dc lol.
Thanks again all.

Electro play is pretty popular.   If there is a power exchange group near you, I'm sure you can find someone with experience who will be happy to teach you about it.   There's a wide variety of ways to take it and types of stimulation you can apply with it.

On the subject of a TENS unit, I would advise some caution as my only BDSM injury came from one.  The Domme I was playing with (an extremely experienced Domme) had it connected to testicles.  I have a pretty strong tolerance for that type of play and she finally cranked it to full power trying to get a response.  The muscles were jumping but it really wasn't that painful.   When I got up to move, it was immediately obvious that it had given me a double hernia.

I don't recommend trying anything before you learn about it live, in person, from a much more experienced person.

It's good to ask questions and you have gotten some good advice as a result. I'd like to add a few thoughts about this DC versus AC thing.

First, that article that people are quoting about the woman who died doesn't say anything about direct current being used. The description of the events suggests that they were using some sort of cheater cord with a power strip plugged into an AC wall outlet. The Darwin Awards were custom made for that couple.

As far as the danger of cardiac arrest your heart really doesn't care if the source is AC or DC. As long as there is sufficient voltage to overcome your body's electrical resistance and allow current flow and enough current capability to kill you, you are in jeopardy whether the source is AC or DC. Most automobile batteries are 12 volts DC and have the capacity to generate significant current through a small enough load. You can grab and hold onto the terminals of the battery - one in each hand - all day long and you'll live to tell about it. Again, Ohm's law at work.

The main reason that DC is cited as being more dangerous than AC is that DC is a constant current and if it grabs you your muscles clench and you can't let go. In theory, AC current passes a zero midpoint each cycle and is not constant. This is great if you have really quick reflexes and can let go in 1/60 of a second before the sine wave peaks in the other direction. Tough to do when your ass is being electrocuted. Direct current can also do some weird chemical things in your body but by that time the electric shock would likely have offed you so it is probably a moot point. At the voltages/current we are talking about this muscle clenching phenomenom would be much less likely to happen. This is the kind of stuff you are more apt to see in industrial settings.

The reason these medical/fetish devices are relatively safer is due to the way they are designed. Many of them employ some sort of current limiting circuit and they can have other safety features built in, also. It's not simply because they are AC that they are relatively harmless. That wall outlet is AC. Go stick a fork in the hot side and you'll see how harmless AC is.

The common admonishment to stay below the waist is a good one but that just makes things less dangerous, not necessarily safe. Human beings don't have a rubber insulator underneath their diaphragms that stops electricity applied below the waist from traveling to other parts of the body above the waist. Electricity can sometimes be unpredictable.

This is a fun little toy:

I have several Tens Units myself I have to use for ortho medical probs. I have also leanred to use them for vararious other stimuli since I have found myself being rekindled in my desire and yearning to be a sub/slave. I never use above lower abdomin and agree the chest or other medical issues could cause a cardiac arrest. One of my favorite units has four leads 6 different settings with a multiple of settings. May use battery or I can just plug it in. It is fun to use with battery pack on my belt hooked up erotically as I do my daily deeds around town. I would like to experience a more intense play but that will have to come from another person who I find one day who will enjoy doing the settings. Oh well enjoy electro play.

This is a big curiosity for Sir and I and we are looking into it, we will start with a tens machine, because you can hire them so we can see if we really do enjoy iy for minimal financial outlay.

We will also be seeking out the help of others expierenced in electrical play

To the OP good luck with it.

As someone who has twice in my life been elecrocuted with standard USA 110-120V, 60 Hz, AC current, I'm here to tell you that AC can freeze you just as solid. I did find it interesting that, during the frozen several seconds, I could sense the current switching and tried to get in sync so I could let go. Because my open eyes were not registering vision during that conscious, painful, forever moment, I never did figure out whether my mother pulled the plug before I succeeding in letting go during that micro-pause.

It happened a second time when the roaches had eaten enough of the insulation in an apartment fridge that opening the door (and hence turning on the light) while I was grounded to the stove was enough to freeze me for a couple of painful seconds.

Whichever way that happens, it does NOT qualify as fun. By my lights.

Delilah Deb
