BBC1 News tonight........

Health Service costs soaring due to huge increase in births amongst immigrant populations (we have a similar message from police, schools, local authorities etc) which havent been funded by government....... (meanwhile, schools nationwide being closed due to falling birthrates.....)

Financial Services Authority reports 1 MILLION UK mortgages in risk of default due to overlending in our inflated housing market - 150,000 at very high risk of default (meanwhile the FBI in the US are investigating a dozen odd companies for mortgage fraud to do with subprime apparently)

Muslim gang sentenced after being found guilty of plotting to kidnap a British Muslim soldier and behead him. Sounded more like stupid young blokes talking stupid young bloke speak to me, but you never know I suppose.

Armed robbers who kidnapped a family and then stole 50 million pounds+ in cash are sentenced to lower terms than the Muslim gang.

Tory MP thrown out of the party for defrauding the electorate with his expenses - a week after a Labour MP and Minister is forced to resign after the umpteenth instance of "unusual accounting" concerning him. Will either face criminal charges? Highly and extremely unlikely.

Local woman told to expect a lengthy sentence for poisoning her husband in a bid to claim life insurance - to clear huge debts.

My goodness! A country to be proud of! Fucked up, every which way.

If only there was somewhere to emigrate that might be better - because if I'm honest I'm really not sure we're going to turn this place around. And maybe thats why the refrain is so much preferable...... All Is Well, All Is Well, All Is Well.....

E

Simple way out, ignore it all. It won't go away, perhaps even get more so, the best protection I find is;

1. Don't buy newspapers, (shit stirrers and rabble rousers, especially those with red titles).

2. Catch news headlines only

3. Look after your own, No.1, your family and friends, people you care about.

4. Expect nothing from the system, anything positive you do get, see it as a plus.

5. Strive to live your life the way you want it.

Meh - I prefere to look at the good things in life than concentrate on the negative all the time.
I love being human and living in the UK and I'm not ashamed to be british.  There is an underwear exhibition occuring, Lego is 50, the North Korean Orchestra are coming to play in the UK, Radiohead are touring, cell phones that can now read text to speach to aid the blind, we didn;t get hit by a meteor, it may snow tomorrow, my children make me smile everyday and Darcy loves me.
Life Rocks.

Take me back to dear old Blighty!
Put me on the train for London town!
Take me over there,
Drop me ANYWHERE,
Liverpool, Leeds, or Birmingham, well, I don't care!

All this to say, what's new?

The Muslim gang were not kids but men in there 30s, they had also supplied eqipement to help Al Qaeda from what i can make of it. No sentences have been passed yet, and to my mind conspiracy to carry out terrorist murders is far worse than stealing.

The item on births is down to Labour having no proper immigration plans.
The overlending is entirely due to people being able to borrow as much as five times salary for a house. For years it was always about 1 1/2 times salary.
As for the MP`s while Hain broke the rules, the conservative seems to have obtained tax payers money by deception and should be jailed if its true.
The poor guy poisoned by his wife has suffered brain damage the callous bitch should get life.

I am ashamed to say that I chuckled as my 90 year old neighbour told me all about the 'immigrents' that turn up on the doorstep of england (???) to be welcomed in given a british passport and then would you believe it call themselves 'British'!!!!!

Then as the tale went on to explain that 'their children' go to school with 'our children' (bring back head painting at least we'd be able to spot em!) and then, although its not there fault they will start to 'breed' and produce some very 'perculiar looking' children........

The she immediately proclaimed that she is not racist as she 'hates them all equally' but is now 'Ashamed to be British' .........

Sad for someone who has seen 2 world wars .....

With regard to the NHS/Immigration issue, Lady Ellen, reports are conflicting... I saw one yesterday that claimed immigrants were so disgusted at our sub-standard health care system they were going abroad to get treated.

As for MPs and personal expenditure... I'd like to meet one who doesn't buck the system b/c then we'd have an honest politician and as we know, there's no such thing

Whilst your thread was made back in January, it's nice to see that some things never change... so optimism all the way for me.

Lady Ellen, those could be headlines from anywhere in world really. Those things have been going on since mankind started, and will always be there. Thomas Jefferson said that the only truth you will find in a newspaper, is an advertisement. I apply this to all news today.

Life is harsh, Life is cruel, Life is beautiful, Life is Crazy and one fact will always be and that is, Life is.......

In effect, a newspaper is one big advertisement for its business and political objectives.

LadyE just do what i do.(bad news)
Really, there will always be depressing news everywhere.  Just remember, they sell more.  Most people could care less about every "boring" normal day to day existence eeked out by your "everyman".  The good stuff is what is basically un-remarkable...but it's out there in numbers far greater than the BBC horror stories with which you seemingly find yourself inundated.*hugs*

Baron Thatcher selling Calais back to the French is a disgrace.
