ORIGINAL: subnstudent I saw this episode on Law & Order last night where this 'doctor' invented Torture Lite (tm) and they used it on "terrorists" in Iraq. One of the army guys from this mercenary company she taught ended up encountering one of the guys he tortured, and so killed him, an interpretor, and the police guys started trailing him Anywho, one of the things that came up was this position called a 'stress position' where a guy's forced to kneel with his wrists tied together and pulled up from behind him. "There's no permanent physical or psychological harm." It can be all fine and dandy, but you better believe there's gonna be psychological harm on a nonconsenting adult, and definitely physical harm from a 'stress position' held for a period of 24-48 hours. Can't say I liked the resolution of this episode, but I think the episode in its entirety was well done and very believeable. It is a well known technique the CIA have been teaching in counter-terrorism training to half the secret police forces in the world, and I understand is still widely used by Americam torturers today. It has a long and very inglorious history as a torture technique, and the idea that it is somehow harmless and benign is **** ridiculous, it can cause all kinds of physical damage to joints, ligaments, etc. and other damage. Just ask John McCain! It was banned wiithin the British forces, along with many other torture techniques still used by US forces, after they were used in Northern Ireland and shown to be ineffective in eliciting truth.Though some of our guys do 'forget' that sometimes. The fact is that under torture you'll say anything to make it stop. If you're innocent, and if you survive it will convince you to then go 'join the resistance', along with the rest of your family even if you weren't active before. If you really ae a terrorist you'll probably come out with the prepared cover story your trainers in counter-interrogation techniques told you to say. Why the ***** do you think your counter-terrorism efforts have made such a mess of South America and Iraq? Not only do they not work, they mobilise the whole population against you!
