Thorns82 -> Kneeling (1/30/2008 11:39:03 AM)

Are there any sort of stretches that could be done to make kneeling for long periods of time easier?  Any other tips or tricks that someone could let me in on?  Thanks so much!

fullofgrace69 -> RE: Kneeling (1/30/2008 11:47:54 AM)

i tend to avoid it as much as possible, its lucky really cos the Dom im talking to likes subbies curled up at His feet not kneeling :D but wen kneeling i tend to kneel with my legs apart and my back kinda bowed. also just practice practice (i dont think i kneel -correctly- but no one has ever commented so :|) kneel when ever u can and u just kinda get used to it x

That's a very good question.  I have two bad knees from sports injuries, so I'd like to know any tips or tricks myself.

If you are a cute and fluffy pet, perhaps your Mistress will allow a pillow! [:D]

I generaly allow my pets a cushion... or have them "kneel up" in the squating form with thier legs open, hands behind thier head. Knee pads for carpet layers work well if they are doing chores on thier knees, or at a function where a cushion can not follow everywhere. As fullofgrace69 said if you bow your back, and spread your knees a part some it will take some of the pressure off.

Yoga, and beldi dancing (belly dancing) generaly helps those muscle groups gain flexability. As does Horseback riding.

With the yoga and beldi dancing you will gain in grace, poise and tone your body so that in and of it's self would be a great gift to give your Dom/me.

I hope this helps.

Gwyn

kneepads.

You can get a nice set from any hardware store for $15-$50 (depending upon how fancy you want to get). Other threads have also suggested kneepads designed for sports, but I'm less familiar with those.

They make a tremendous difference and help more than you'd expect. Plus, when you're kneeling they're barely visible anyway.

The only real downside is the potential to be walking around in kneepads after the fact, but most can be quickly released and reattached as you get up and down, so even that shouldn't be a concern.

I have bad knees from sports too and it was suggested that I use weight training to build up the muscles around the knee.  Seems to help.

ProlificNeeds -> RE: Kneeling (1/30/2008 12:14:28 PM)

Pillow or knee pads, and learn to rock your weight 'back' a bit off the knee cap itself if possible when in position. If you're suffering more of a leg cramping, stretching out the calves and thighs to limber them is helpful but doesn't help with the direct impact to knee. You can try to shift weight from knee to knee a bit too I personally find minimal movement helps, shifting weight, flexing ect.
If you do a lot kneeling on rough surfaces you may start to get dry rough skin upon the knees. Staying ahead of the rough knee issue is better than combating it once it starts. Treat as any dry skin issue, exfoliate and moisturize.

mnottertail -> RE: Kneeling (1/30/2008 12:18:05 PM)

well put a chair back under each arm, do slow steady conrolled deep knee bends, to maybe a 70-80 degree angle, do not go to the lock in your kneecaps...........

repeat. alot.............

do whole leg exercises.

Pillow...do not tense up, tell master when you are losing heat or feeling in legs, even slightly, masters allow them to adjust......

tylenol for swelling.............aspirin in low doses for ache.

I have tendon and cartilage issues in the knees as well. Muscle building helps ease tendon strain around the knee which helps if you have tension or rubbing issues in the joint. Pressure directly upon the knee cap area however will still be the same as there is really no muscle at that point. (in the instance of kneeling)

If your knees are naturally sore though stretches of tendons and stronger muscle mass around the joint alleviates those pre-existing problems.

An ex of mine used to make a very low small stool to enable kneeling for extended periods without pain.  i only wish He would have marketed them!

Wouldn't a little stool or bench be like cheating? ( I assume it went under the bottom to support part of your weight?)

sweetwenchie -> RE: Kneeling (1/30/2008 12:27:24 PM)

As He was the one told me to use it i would not call it cheating.   He generally made them for his friends, or those with submissives with knee or joint issues.  It helped the submissives to kneel as was desired of them without aggravating any conditions they had.   Now if i had snuck it underneath me while His back was turned i would have a different response to that question.

Kneeling I can do, it's the getting back up that concerns me ;)

but I have big shins and my weight rests on them more then my knee caps.

Sorry TTM ~wink~   but the stool was VERY low, perhaps in the 8 - 12" range, definitely not enough to leave anyone with their ass way up in the air.

~perk~  The Master drops to his knees?  [:D]   i am liking that particular visual  lol

fairerthanshe -> RE: Kneeling (1/30/2008 1:35:25 PM)

~~FR~~

Take Glucosamine and Chondroitin on a regular basis.  These will help rebuild and repair cartilage in your knee.

Thorns82 -> RE: Kneeling (1/30/2008 1:48:41 PM)

Thanks for all the responses!  Our health club just started offering yoga lessons, maybe I could try those.  Belly dancing could be fun too ^.~  I'll try pillows and cushions in strategic places around the house as well.
