TreasureKY -> An Illustration of Absurdity... (1/30/2008 6:38:50 PM)

This is, by no means, a complaint or a whine... and I certainly don't intend this to be an exercise in taking the piss out of any particular CM member who isn't present to defend himself... Well, maybe just a tiny bit... I'm dying laughing here, after all. Please forgive me, I'm only human. [;)] However I did want to take this opportunity to share a perfect example of why so many submissives don't bother to respond to unsolicited messages. Yesterday evening, I received a rather lengthy, uninvited message here on CollarMe. It began with a rather detailed and graphic sexual scene, titled "Chapter 1", in which was written a first person account of what would be done to the reader. In other words, it was written as "I will do to you", etc. This literary offering was followed up with a brief introduction of himself by the author, and a declaration of interest in me based on my profile. An opportunity to request "Chapter 2" was made, and the sender also expressed an interest in chatting online and provided the necessary screen name for doing so. Well... as flattering as it was to be of interest to some unknown dominant, my profile clearly indicates that I am not in the market. I typically take unsolicited messages in stride and either send a polite "thanks, but I'm not available" reply, or I don't respond at all. I don't really get many at all anymore and it's not a big deal to me when I do. At any rate, this particular message seemed to hit me at one of those times when I was in one of my more puckish moods and I guess my response, although polite, tipped the scale more towards irreverent... Dear _______, I do thank you for sending me the beginning of your story. Although your sentences are a bit abrupt, you do show a respectable grasp of spelling and POV. I would recommend you work on exposition, though. Lack of proper background information does make it hard for a reader to sympathize with the characters. Perhaps a prologue would help you to alleviate this problem without having to do a major re-write. All-in-all, it was a very nice effort and appreciated. Nonetheless, it really isn't to my taste and wouldn't be something I would care to add to my repertoire of reading material. Though I have my doubts, perhaps once FirmhandKY has a chance to read it, he might be interested in the next chapter. If so, I'll be sure to let you know. Good luck, Treasure By the way, any subs who may have received the same or similar message and don't know how to respond... feel free to plagiarize my response above. [;)] To be honest, I really expected the sender to ignore my reply and that would be the end of that. I did figure there was a chance he would be upset that his offer was not taken seriously, but there was just as much a possibility that he would find the humor in the situation. Apparently, he was not amused. lol... But I was. Tonight I received a response from him incredulously asking who I was and what I was talking about... in addition to asking why he would care what I think. Of course, there was an obligatory insult or two, including the suggestion that I get a personality and calling me "moronic". In light of this type of thing, I do understand why there are so many messages that go un-replied to. Perhaps some who bemoan the lack of responses to their messages might read this and understand, too. So... any good ideas for a follow-up reply? [:D] Where is domiguy when you need him?
