i know what im going to do, im gonna smack him upside his head and tell him if he can catch me he gets 150 bucks.  what he fails to realize is i have the car keys. lmao   of course knowing him he'd just jump on the hood.

I know this feeling all to well ....  i have one  turning 18 July 4th  but all I can think about is his moving out ( can we say PROBLEM child)  Far as getting old sucks I would have to agree I turned 50 last July only to find  that I promtly began to fall apart ... Genetics is a cruel fact of life when it comes to arthritis

CONGRATULATIONS! Not for him, for you. I serious, you've made it; you haven't killed him, he hasn't killed you, you haven't killed yourself....WELL DONE and cheers!

(All of those seem to be very real outcomes for me with 2 teens.)

yea some of us are amazed he is still alive.  but all in all he is a good kid, too much like his mother, and well, being a single parent his whole life, tended to do that to him.

bipolarber -> RE: getting older sucks (1/31/2008 10:57:38 AM)

Really, as someone who never had kids myself, I'm willing to bet there's a great sense of satisfaction in getting a kid to that age without them turning into something nasty. The sheer number of dangers and temptations that they have to face today just freaks me out.

Damn good job, MyDom!

You're a very wise man.

Tell me about it.

hejira92 -> RE: getting older sucks (1/31/2008 5:50:12 PM)

Boy, do I feel you. It's not bad enough that my oldest is graduating H.S. in May, but he has enlisted in the Marines. He tried for a NROTC scholarship (a compromise between us), but didn't get it (great test scores, recommendations and physical fitness, but mediocre grades).

So, in August- a month BEFORE his 18th- he's shipping off.

Can you say "cannon fodder"? (black humor is my only defense against total breakdown [:(])

christine1 -> RE: getting older sucks (1/31/2008 5:52:08 PM)

my youngest will be 18 in a few months.  i'm glad and relieved that we made it and in a year or two  as i look forward to some time for "me",  i know i'll be worried sick about him being gone and what he's doing and if he's eating right, etc.

i think the hardest part for me is not getting them to the point where they are prepared to leave, it is actually letting them go.

Indeed. My grandfather used to say the only thing worse was the alternative.
