I said I wasn't going to go into a long tirade about my beliefs vs. yours and I'm standing by it. However, I will share mine in a strictly informational light. I am a witch and a pagan. I am proud of my religion, and I don't want this to turn into a debate. You have your religion, and I'm happy for you. I will not accept someone denying me mine.
Now, with that out of the way, there are so many sects and orders and disorders of paganism that I couldn't pretend to tell you what someone else believes. Paganism covers pretty much anything that isn't mainstream. I can only tell you what I believe.
quote:

So do tell, How does Paganism believe we got here? Hmmm

I believe in a Creator. I worship the triplicate Goddess aspect of the Creator, the maiden, mother, and crone, but I believe that all gods and goddesses are one. I believe that the only things that differ are what we call them and the ways we choose to worship them. I believe a divine spark started this universe, and all in it. However, I believe that animals and plants are my equal, having received the same spark at their inception. I believe in the maitenance and preservation of this planet. After all, in my belief, it was a gift from Goddess.
quote:

Where do they think where going? Hmmm

I believe in reincarnation. I believe that when we die we go to the Summerlands (an ancient Celtic belief), a place of reflection and learning, for an unspecified time until we are ready to assume a new corporeal form. I believe that we can choose our shape and purpose, our family and peers. I believe that we learn throughout multiple lifetimes until we have reached enlightenment. I believe that we can't know the true nature of Goddess until we have reached it.

I don't presume to know solid facts about the Goddess/God/Creator/Great Spirit. I am only human, after all. I have only talked to her in the simple, beautiful little magics of the everyday, and I simply worship her in the way that rings the most truly to me. If you do the same, knees2you, I am very happy for you, and I see no further reason for debate.

Not quite. You gotta wear a pirate costume, and as a communion you partake of the Holy Meal, which consists in pasta. It's all explained here http://www.venganza.org . There is a promise of a stripper factory in Heaven, sounds good. It's a new religion supporting the idea of Intelligent Design, the only difference being that the Intelligent Designer, in this case, is (and was and will be) a Spaghetti Flying Monster. It's invisible but some people could see it in visions.

one version of paganism believes that a bird shit on a stump and we hatched in the sun. Mine believes that we were made from trees ask and embla (ash and elm) although it goes into a little more detail than some other religions do about what happened before that.

Just as good a fairy tale as any. IMO.

I have met a number of people who claim to have spoken to god. The amazing thing is that no ONCE has god told them they were wrong or pointed out what arseholes they are.

She's either really really polite or a closet Nazi

Does't anyone realize that it's a sin to harm the edges of your beard or to wear clothing of more than one fiber? Why are we not talking about these sins and attributing them to the destruction of new orleans?

The other day on the radio, there was a debate about Gods punishment or wrath on New Orleans. However, if God really wanted to flood New Orleans, then why didn't the worse parts of New Orleans get flooded? People are still drinking at bars on Bourbon Street after all.

Lousy aim?

I was thinking of that a few nights ago as I watched video of a Baptist church flooded almost to its roof.

Of course, most "godly punishments" aren't very selective. Take the plagues of Egypt. At that time, Egypt wasn't a democracy. Still the people were tortured and murdered (first born son). They had no control over the policies of their leader.

It's OK, kill them all, God will know his own, as Amalric said in 1209 (20000 to 60000 deads in Béziers)

Anyway, I must say you're all wrong about why God punished la Nouvelle Orléans . It's because people eat too much shrimp there, and it is just as abominable as having homosexual relations, check your bible ! http://www.godhatesshrimp.com/.

Kneels2you, I hope you saw no offense when I explained what is my religion. As Intelligent Design is making its way into science class, with supporters such as Dubya and McCain, there is hope for us pastafarians to see our theory of the Holy Noodle, Intelligent Creator of the trees, the mountains and the midgets, taught in science classes in many states all over America, as this theory is scientifically as valid (even more, we think, because scientific observations support our theory) as the standard Intelligent Design theory.

Have I missed something along the way?

Having grown up in a home that was VERY strictly Catholic, I am now wondering if I was hoodwinked all this time after reading through this thread. Although I no longer practice the Catholic religion or any other form of organized religion (I prefer my spirituality served straight up with no politics involved) I still believe in God and have developed my own personal way of practicing my faith.

I have always been taught that God sent His only son to die for our sins....all those that we have already committed, and all of those we have yet to commit. Now I come here to find out that God is throwing temper tantrums akin to that of a 12 year old and wiping out masses of people because he is angry? Really, do we not have more faith in His abilities to control his emotions than this? He is after all, supposed to be a Supreme Being. If God has no more self control than this and must resort to "acting out" in this manner....then I am not so sure that I would be so confident in His abilities to rule the Universe. Come on folks.

I don't profess to understand why God allows such things to occur....if I were to understand that than I guess I would be in the running to take over His position. I don't believe for one second though that such tragedies are the result of His anger or His inability to control it.

I don't think anybody on this forum seriously believes that Katrina was sent as a punishment. As for me I prefer to take lightly the extremly heinous claims made by religious (un)christian extremists saying that God punished people in New Orleans for their sexual misbehaviour. As I said eating shrimp is also considered as an abominable sin, in the bible. As Beaumarchais said, I quickly laugh at everything for fear of having to cry. ("Je m'empresse de rire de tout de peur d'avoir à en pleurer").

They get around that one with a passage from the NT where Jesus pronounces all foods clean - spread 'em baby!

That's right... but in KJV the word "abomination" appears 142 times. I'm sure I could find somthing that Jesus didn't specifically repealed [checking]
Leviticus 7:18, eating meat 2 days after the animal was killed, is abomination. (Imho it's certainly unsafe if you don't have a fridge).
...
Oh My Noodle ! It's all about sex and food, very primitive ! OK, pastafarianism is also a lot about food, but the Holy Noodle has nothing against any kind of consensual sex....

Edit : Representations of God are an abomination. Therefore for example the movie The Passion of Christ is an ABOMINATION !

Edit : crossdressing is an abomination. According to Deuteronom 22:5, this includes men wearing perfume or women wearing trousers, as I understand it.
