No mercy from this company if your home is destroyed by some disaster. They are forcing victims of a tornado earlier this month to pay for the damaged cable boxes and remotes.

Yeah, I do.
I'll write them a nice little nasty note to go with my bill this month that just came in today!
If that were me I'd return the pieces of it.
"Here's your cable box!"

Actualy.. all the customer had to do was call the cable company and tell them thier boxes were distroyed and have them removed from thier acct.

Having been a supervisor for a Cable Company ( not this one) in the past I know how some customers can get esp. on billing issues. She most likely flipped out, hung up, and called the press. I highly doubt she spoke to a manager, or even got to the point of dealing with someone far enough into her acct. to actualy help her.

However because people fly off the handle instead of actualy talking to and dealing with the company they have services with Companies get smeared.

Don't get me wrong.. companies screw people left and right.. ( hell I am in the business of helping people who have been screwed by companies currently) But that is not always the case.

To hell with Time Warner. Everthing was great when I had comcast. But that mother fucking Road Runner had to buy what was perfect and make my life a living hell. Beep Beep my Bare White Ass. When TW took over, they fucked my internet, they fucked my phone, and they double fucked my cable taking away the second recorder in my DVR.

But now it's over as we're with Direct TV and AT&T wireless. It's not perfect, but much better than Time Warner. For now, I'm just buying time untill Verizon Fios can become avalible in my neighbor hood.

Well if my house is blown apart by a tornado and Im lucky to be alive, the last thing on my mind is to call the cable company and tell them their equitment is up in Oz somewhere. You'd think there would be some understanding.

I used to have Comcast and never liked them because their high speed internet was also screwed up. It would keep disconnecting and no tech could seem to figure out why. When I moved I went to DirecTV for TV and Brighthouse for high speed and have not had any problems. Verizon Fios is here but Im not getting it because they would have to dig up my yard and frankly I dont like Verizon anyway.

After Hurricane Elvis, the utilities took the approach that people should have called them immediately to avoid being billed for services that were undeliverable to houses that were uninhabitable.

direct satelitte is upping it rates..  i have dish- which has cinamx for .01 for a year if one agrees to automatic bill to cc

Gwynvyd -> RE: Anyone have Time Warner cable? (2/1/2008 3:39:40 PM)

yeah that was the deal.. in some regions Comcast bought out all the Time Warner properties ( like Florida) and in others Time Warner bought out all the Comcast properties ( appaernetly where you are)

Since both companies went in to buy the bankrupt Aledphia.

Converging both companies networks ( or what we call "Plants") is the largest pain in the ass, has huge pitfalls.. and no one had any idea just how hard it was untill they tried. Not everyones "plant" is created equal. In my old region Our plant for Comcast rocked out loud and hard. We spent a lot of time and money on it to upgrade to digital phone service. We were the first ones to start digital phone service in our Company because of our plant and infastructure. *sniff sniff I was so proud*  When TW came on board and we had to add thier shit ( and I mean that literialy) onto our network it sucked hard. No one was happy.

As for billing issues all utility bills and well bills in general are tablulated and sent out by computers. There are no gnomes sitting in a back office some where tabulating who is using what, and who's house is still standing or was effected by what. They do not run police reports to see if any ones house burnt down.. or in case of natural disaster ( our district was hurricane central ) who's house is still standing. There are no "reports" you could even search to see who's is or isnt.

We went through hurricanes left and right over the years. Many homes were lost or dammaged. All a customer had to do was eventualy ( no time limit of within a week, or a month what have you) tell the company and we would take it off the bill. Some homes were hit, some were not. With Hurricanes, and tornadoes it can hit one house, and miss the house right next door. Unless you tell someone they have no bloody idea your situation. Acting like a complete ass because *you* didnt make some one aware of your situation is just idiotic.

To get charged for the boxes they had to either cancel thier cable totaly, or get totaly new boxes, and not turn in the ones on the acct ( due to damage ) and not tell the installer or counter person why you need new boxes. So the customer did something on thier acct with out explaining what happened. ( again.. not the companies fault.. they do not employ mind readers. )

just my thoughts on it from knowing the industry. ( and more then any of you ever wanted to know about cable)

I would play 1,000 hands of Uno a night before going to dish.... over priced rat bastards who never stop billing, refuse to cancel, bad reception..... Grrr...

Let's say we're discussing something expensive like a DVR. Wouldn't you're homeowner's claim cover the expense?

Gwynvyd -> RE: Anyone have Time Warner cable? (2/1/2008 10:27:19 PM)

Depends on your level of insurance.. but most people never want to deal with thier insurance companies.

As a company we always just took the hit as a biz loss, removed it from thier acct, and appologized for what happened to them and thier homes.

The boxes are expenisive. When someone misplaces one, or breaks one on purpose, or steals parts out of them.. they *have to* be replaced with a new box. New box prices increase all the time from the manufacturers. You are only given so much in your budget per year for new equiptment purchases. Depending on marker and model it can be from $600 to about 750 for a new DVR

People never look at the biz side of things.. they think so what it is just a ( what ever) ~ this goes for any company...

what they fail to realize is that company has had thousands if not tens of thousands of people think exactly the same thing. It adds up. This is why people don't get raises... or thier bonus, or better insurance. The American Consumer has been fed the line of Princess Bullshit that they are always right. Even when they know they arent, and chose to act like a bastard.

Then in thier own jobs they wonder why people are so mean and they dont get the raises they are due.

Shit rolls down hill.

Not meaning to unload.. but consumers just piss me off. ~even though it is my job to protect them now.. I spend 98% of my time explaining to them that no they didnt get screwed.. they were just a dumbass.

I am going to agree with Gwyn, here (surprised?  [;)] ).
Some people will not call at all and just take the lumps and then complain.  Others will make a call, lose their temper and then complain loudly and publicly.
I just wrote in another thread about My call to Direct TV last week.  I took Me 45 minutes to get a $70 charge removed from My bill for a service call.  Now, I was offered the service call after being on the phone regarding My faulty DVR.  I was assured there would be no charge and that it could be replaced if it was checked and needed to be.  That is exactly what happened.  So I was surprised to not only get charged the $70 but to find out (quite by accident!) that My contract with Direct TV had been extended for two additonal years!  I was also told that I should have had a maintenance contract which truly puzzled Me (and no such thing was ever even offered to Me to begin with) since I do not own the equipment.  I pay to rent it long with the satellite service each month.  When the CS rep tried to compare it to a leased auto and maintaining oil changes, tires, etc. I found it rather amusing and asked her if I should get a screw driver and take her DVR apart to look inside.  Suffice it to say, in this instance the customer was right, but it took 45 minutes and two requests for a supervisor before they suddenly "found" the notation regarding the free service call and they also removed the contract extension.
I keep telling people they have to speak up, but you can get what you need (most of the time) if you are patient and take the time.

Gwynvyd -> RE: Anyone have Time Warner cable? (2/3/2008 5:20:09 AM)

Good for you sticking to your guns!

I hate that BS they pull on people. If they are renting the equiptment they should service it for free. ( unless you are calling for stupid shit like My tv isnt on chnl 3 and I want you to come here and change my chnl for me)

You have no idea how many folks we got after the storms from dish companies. Thier dishes would end up in a canal.. they would charge them for the dish replacement, the service call to see the dish was in fact gone.. and for the new dish. *rolls her eyes* If they cancelled then they had to pay out to do that too.

ick.
