It isn't the same thing at all.  It is much more akin to a couple of people sitting at a table trying to have a proper conversation and then another group with their own agenda comes to sit at the same table to have another conversation, talking over the original.

Except this isn't a place to hold private conversations... this is an open forum where people know in advance that what they are posting will be subject to comment and even criticism from the group at large.

I didn't say private conversation.  I have no problem with people *joining in* on the conversation, nor *related* comment and criticism.  In fact, I encourge that.  It is the off topic drag that I have issue with.

ModeratorEleven -> RE: Thread Hijacking (2/1/2008 11:51:41 AM)

There are a small handful of people who are about to go on an unplanned vacation.  If you think the post in the Adminstrative Announcements forum was a joke, you're about to feel the punch line.

KatyLied -> RE: Thread Hijacking (2/1/2008 11:54:53 AM)

About hit and runs.  Sometimes I do that with the intention of never going back to the thread (as saying what I had to say is enough on the subject), sometimes I forget to check the thread again, sometimes.....I just do not care what people may say in response.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: Thread Hijacking (2/1/2008 12:03:42 PM)

What I dont understand is. there was a thread about "what else other than ones body does your Dom like about you". Every reply I saw, was about the topic and there was even posts redirecting what little drift there was...people being on there best behavior and still there was a reprimand posted by moderator 11. This confused me. I was like "what hijacking"?

personally, I love homor and it would be fun to be able to have a place where we could have some fun in a natural way. We have become friends and this is what happens in normal conversations. people dont begrudge humor. respect is good but humor gives people a reason to go on in there crappy lives. If it wasnt for my sense of humor, and others, we would all be long gone from this planet.

These sarcastic bad, funny hijackers, well I want them gathered around me if I am ever diagnosed with cancer or something. then I would have a fighting chance. Laughter cures illness.

LaTigresse -> RE: Thread Hijacking (2/1/2008 12:07:34 PM)

I agree 100%. Humour is highly underrated and all too often unappreciated. Usually by those with something painfully stuck, in a dark smelly place.

Alumbrado -> RE: Thread Hijacking (2/1/2008 12:08:34 PM)

Apparently Mod 11 has found an abitrary and nebulous standard to get rid of people she doen't like, without having any clear cut violations...witness my 'hijack' of the polygraph thread by posting links on how the polygraph works.[8|]

It confused you because by the time you got to it, half of the posts had been deleted by Mod11.  You would have had to have seen it before that to really understand.

Sorry... I took between 'a couple of people' to mean that any outsider input was unwelcome.

I agree with you on the tactic of ruining a decent thread topic, which is why I was surprised at this latest administrative announcement, given all the examples of people hijacking threads to troll for partisan political arguments that have gone unmoderated in the past.

Yeah, I saw that too and figured that some posts fell to deletion.

The group I playfully refer to as the CollarMe Women's Auxilliary seem to feel most every thread is a welcome place for their insessant off topic chat with one another.

Otherwise known as the Bigmouth Submissive Collective - though you may avoid that particular group by joining more 'arrid' discussion threads. They tend to not frequent those as assiduously :-) .

Jeez....and you've made us have to PM each other instead, but its really hard to have jello wrestling in private one on one e-mail.[:D]

No, you're probably more than welcome to have your frivolous threads in the off topic/humour areas of the site.  The point is, your jello wrestling probably isn't appropriate while other people are trying to discuss issues relevant to the thread in question.

~Fast Reply~

I personally just don't give a damn if a thread gets hijacked, including my own. This idea that once it gets hijacked it will never go back on topic is absurd. If the topic is interesting enough new people will come and post their own ideas on the OP, pulling the topic back.

If your thread or your friend's thread gets hijacked, get over it. Nobody did it to insult you. It's the same as sitting at a table and trying to introduce a new topic of conversation and whoever you are talking with go "Nah, we'd rather talk about this instead." Hell at least hijack keeps the thread alive and I've gotten some interesting responses to my threads because thread hijack kept them alive and on the first page.

If you're sitting at a table and want to introduce a new topic of conversation, and your tablemates say, "You stupid doofus, how dumb of you to think anyone would be interested in your inane subject," and then the conversation continues in a manner that is demeaning and nasty, that is bullying. And when the tablemates get called on the carpet, they claim that "the OP was just asking for it by being stupid and uninformed"

If you think the OP is stupid and uninformed, just ignore the thread - dondon't post at all; the thread will die a natural death. The OP may be sad that no one wanted to discuss his/her topic, but at least he/she will not be left feeling like a beating has just been received.

A thread drifting naturally into a different direction is natural. Deliberately belittling and putting down the OP is bullying, and there's a big difference.

My threads have been hijacked too, Heck, I've even helped. Its called humor.

You may not care what the person has to say in response, and that is hardly fair to the person that you hit and left. Yes, I am talking about the thread in which the poster had decided that "Based on your posts I hardly think you can afford to financially take care of a sub, should he lose his job due to his day dreaming about you". You came on with "Someone hit a nerve" and left. I answered your response and so did my pup. BTW, the poster who said that about me not being able to afford....blah blah blah..never came back either. I am glad you came on this thread to explain, not that you needed to, but it is honorable that you did.

Since when are the forums someone's idea of "proper conversation"? Frankly, these forums have always reminded me of the lunch tables at my nerd camp. Long conversations about Nietzche and side discussions about putting condoms on bananas.

*shrugs* That's pretty standard really. Even in formal debates you get that. They just use bigger words for doofus. I try to avoid being insulting but frankly, some people just are being stupid. If that's my opinion I may try to state it more nicely but I will state it.
