I have in the past been told I have Aspergers, because of some difficulties and the textbook tick list. But the tick list, anyone aspergers or not can claim they fit with most if not all of the classic traits Things I have become aware of, like so many other undiagnosed adults, I have changed, the eye contact thing and a few others and I do see aspergers not as a disorder, but an enhancement. Fair enough some of the social skills might initially be lacking, but once known, Aspergic people learn fast, but do sometimes appear to over compensate as what is normal, is not natural to them. Oh and aspergic people tend to be perfectionists, analytical and critical especially self critical, but they are all things that can be worked on. Largely those with aspergers are of a higher IQ and have a different way of looking at things so can solve problems others have difficulty with. In fact, I believe Albert Einstein was aspergic, and I knew an Oxford Don, professor of mathematics at one of the universities who was also aspergic, people I came across when I was exploring the possibilities of myself being similarly gifted. No, all these so called 'disorders', though maybe they be different from the norm, they can also be looked upon as enhancements and it is the duty of those engaged in teaching to find ways to rely information to these people, not write them off as having a disorder. For a teacher to do such a thing, to me is an admission of failure, as a teacher is born not made and a natural teacher will always find a way to teach and indeed may see the teaching of enhanced people as a challenge worthy of their skills, I know,I would! There is another authority on Asperger's worth mention, but I forget all the person's name except that he is from the comedian, ' Ali G's family, the family name being Baron-Cohen. Mind, Sacha Baron-Cohen is an intellect to wonder at. quote:
ORIGINAL: thewllr Im getting tested soon but I fully believe that I have something called aspergers which is kind of like high functioning autisim. Just wondering if anyone else has it?
