Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?' 'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life ! You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony. YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay 'them.'

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.' And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love , whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9 Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them , at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER :
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away .

I was 29 for many years, getting old is a luxury- those who dont are dead.   the question is how do u want to age. bitter and cynical or a free spirit.

when one is older one has more bad days and more limitations, on the flip side more wisdom and inner strength and tools to navigate life.

my advice:    treat your body as a temple- not a casino as I have,

being 44 is     well a journey and one I dont mind, it is not riddled with the uncertainties of the 30s and 20s.

So the answere is yes and no.

Some people age faster than others and I've seen old people in there twenties.

Even at eighteen, I've seen old people who take medications for blood pressure, cholesterol, and have arthritis. Some have already had atleast three open cardiac bypass surgeries.

Bad genes, dieting, early smoking/drinking, over partying, and becoming parents, caught up with some youngters faster than they thought it would.

The number is irrelivant. You're old when you're old.

You're only as old as the person you're feeling - then reality hits. Just two nights ago I held up my hand and said to my boy, "Look at that", which he did and kissed it, replying, "Aww, I love your wrinkles".

It's all in the genes. My grandmother never stopped for a minute until the day she died, and she went quickly when the time came. She was just short of 90 and in better shape than I am now at 51. When she died, it was sudden and quick, which is what I worry about more than growing old. I don't want to be just "hanging on" in a nursing home someplace. I've done volunteer work in nursing homes and most of those people are simply existing, not really living.
I always thought I would age just like my grandmother because we were so much alike. Unfortunately I managed to get every bad gene possible on both sides of the family. Every day is a challenge right now, but I'm not ready to give up. I'll fight it to the bitter end!!!

I think growing old is a form of de-evolution where we take on characteristics associated with primates... Ever looked at an elderly person and thought their ears looked bigger? As for the excess hair, my goodness that's punishment alone for a lifetime of debauchery (better clean up your act now before it's too late, CL).

greetings curiouslord,

i have fibromyalgia, which means most of the time i feel like exactly what you described, and sometimes it's worse (and accompanied by terrible pain). i'm 20. i feel like i'm 80. most older people i know do liken it to old age. what alumbrado said about memory loss holds true for me as well...LOL. can't remember shit.

at the same time, i have a very youthful spirit (maybe because sometimes for me feeling like i'm 80 physically and acting like i'm 5 mentally i hope might somehow possibly add up to that whole being 20 chronologically thing). i think that's what matters. you can deal with any amount of exhaustion, pain, memory loss, etc. at any age if you are able to focus on doing what you love instead of on how you are going to make it through the next however many years (i don't always take my own advice, but it's good advice, trust me :P).

A friend of mine has a stock answer for being old ... "If I had known I would live this long I would have taken better care of myself"
I hit 50 and EWWWWWWWWWW the things came out of the woodwork. Three Forms of arthritis that have effectivly taken alot of my life... I don't just let it thrive tho and I dont live on meds but the loss of strength is probally the one that irritates me the most ... Luckily it hasnt hit my hands bad enough to take away my livlihood. So yeah you could be looking forward to that with age to

Once when I was a lad of 23 and in the Navy a stripper took me home for the night and we fucked SIX long seperate times.

i did not feel old until a cute little 23 year old was hitting on me and trying to ask me on a date the other day. When i found myself actually having to resist the urge to pat his cheek and call him a sweet boy i realized that i am getting old! ~sigh~
