That's right, I bet an entire dollar that the Giants are going to win. I'll be needing it to buy a soda during the lunch break.

I found out who was playing after the game was about half over.

I really don't get this football thingy.

Big bucks that could be spent in so many other beneficial ways...

What is this "Superbowl" of which you speak?

I have never understood why its fun to watch sports when you could be playing some sport yourself. I used to play American football, but when I stopped playing I lost all interest in it.

A discussion with my nephew once began with his telling me all kinds of sports stuff. I stopped him and said, "Tell me something about you, I don't care about all this sports stuff. Celebrities don't matter to me. You matter to me."

What is this "Superbowl" of which you speak?

During my college days, I was asked this question. I was a prep cook and dish washer for a local chinese buffet. Normally, our Sundays were busy and the owner had extra food cooked up. When super bowl Sunday came up, he and his wife started ranting and screaming "Where the customa? Where the customa? How come we see no customa?" I replied back "Today is Super Bowl Sunday." "Supa Bol? Wat the Supa Bol?" "It's the big Foot Ball Championship. The best two football teams in the nation go head to head for the championship. Just about everybody either stays home, parties, or goes to a sports bar to drink and watch the game." "Fut bol? What is Fut Bol?"

I was shocked to find out that USA imigration courses do not teach Imigrating Citizens what the Super Bowl is. It's practically a non offical national holiday.

As for celebrities, some of us watch them to see what challenges we face should we ever try and be professionals ourselves. When it comes to sports, many find ourselves not making the cut but still admire the ones who could go the distance. Other people watch sports for investment purposes. Gambling, buying selling sport products, which sports/rookie cards should be bought, ect.... If nothing else, watching sports gives something to talk about with fellow co workers other than the weather.

I guess giving a worthless opinion on something is much more productive huh?

Well, the live screening followed on from Match Of The Day 2 (that's real football btw) last night at 2250 UK time, so I thought I'd stick around and watch it. I watched the game that was played at our national football stadium a while back (the mud wrestling session - the pitch hadnt recovered even months after) and it was entertaining and I sort of thought I was starting to make some sense of the game.

But instead of getting to see the game, I was treated to 30 minutes of utter guff masquerading as informed commentary, accompanied by over glitzy and pointless features on the teams; I learned nothing about the teams or their players except how nicely they can smile. Then elaborate ceremony for the teams entering the arena - great I thought, finally! But no, another ten minutes of waiting around.

So at 2330 UK time, they kicked off. Then they stopped. Then they did some more, then they stopped again - long enough for more glitzy and pointless features on the teams. By midnight, 30 minutes after the first kick they'd actually played half that time; not sure how that makes much sense, but obviously it must. At that point it made more sense to go to bed.

Anyway, being a Brit and picking the underdog I'm glad the Giants won. Its sort of like if Chelsea are playing - it doesnt matter who theyre playing, as long as Chelsea get beaten.

E
