I hear you. I have similar problems due to the fact that I'm so fantastically irresistable to women that mothers are constantly having to explain to their daughters* just why they feel a Death Star-like tractor beam pull towards me.

Ahhh, the torment. [;)]

*of consenting age, natually

So that explains why I want to jump into my computer every time I see your picture!

As of yet, it isn't quite photo ready. I'm having a lot of trouble getting the color to take everywhere so I'm currently bright purple with a few streaks of white. It's definately interesting! I'm hoping to get some nice photos soonish and will probably put one up.

GabrielleSlave -> RE: A Rant: When is enough, enough? (2/3/2008 2:10:27 PM)

*sighing* i prefer the "each to his/her own" sentiment, but sometimes we can't always have what we prefer... i too have UMS and i would much rather talk about the colour of someone's (rather gorgeous coloured) hair than why someone was being led around on a lead... but then i am sure that is my own shortcoming.

Anyway, i simply cannot see overt lifestyle being carried on in my part of London so i guess i will just go to sleep now... hmmmmm wondering how my collar would come across with the other school run mums?!?!

Hugs

I understand that but to me it's the same answer. "Because they want to", perhaps followed by "We don't do that because we think it's rude/unattractive". I'd honestly rather explain a leash than some of the sayings on shirts, particularly for girls. Knowing me as a child, my kids will ask and I won't be able to get out of answering. [:@]

London, eh? We're virtually neighbours [:D]

As for school runs, the.dark. has worn hers on many a run, to PTA meetings, concerts and more and has never encountered any negative comments, feelings etc. In fact, when she has 'warned' them of some of the more 'explicit' of her artwork when arranging play dates they have been unphased and perfectly accepting of her lifestyle.

Laugh away, Laurell, I'm always laughing at myself [:D] I believe one should have a healthy sense of humour as well as being talk, dark and hot [;)]

GabrielleSlave -> RE: A Rant: When is enough, enough? (2/3/2008 2:21:50 PM)

You have a good point there...

i have a party on Friday night, to celebrate my new life post divorce.  i really wanted to have some clues (subtle ones though not the entire collection) to what my b/f and i are into.  However my b/f (really my Master) pointed out that doing so with so many vanillas would be a mistake.  My UMS may get ostracised by other parents not wanting to let their UMS go to play dates with mine....... could happen so i (of course) agreed....

All part of the same thing.  i do not want to hide the real me, but there is a time and place for everything surely?

That's so unfair...if I agree with that the.dark pokes my eyes out with a sharp stick [8D]!  (it's a joke, of course).

How about making a human being a “pet”. A person, who by their own free will, agreeing to be turned into someone else’s property. To be lead around by collar and leash, caged up and spanked when bad, and rewarded for being loyal and good. To be taken care, feed, and clothed by the one they call Master, and to never think twice about running.

It sounds like a great fantasy.

I highly recommend not trying to live a 24/7 fantasy.

GabrielleSlave -> RE: A Rant: When is enough, enough? (2/3/2008 2:25:24 PM)

LOL!  i have worn my collar on runs but on cold days and worn a scarf as it is very obvious it's not jewellery!  In fact the weather is pefect for it tomorrow too, i can hear the milkbottles rolling around outside.... horrible night!

One of the advantages to being young is that you can wear a collar without it drawing unusual stares or attention. Your just "one of those Goth kids".

I would agree with that, but that time and place varies for everyone. I don't know about over there but here there is a wonderful fad of putting things just short of porn on a t-shirt and parading 12 year old girls around with highly suggestive logos on their shirts, so I see my wearing a leash or cuffs with no sexual intent as the least of a parent's problems at the mall.

It's also a matter of there being a give and take - something I think is very important. For reasons that may seem illogical, I get offended by the sight of girls who haven't hit puberty yet being dressed up like cocktail waitresses, wearing belly shirts, and etc. I am also irked at the "Marriage = 1 Man + 1 Woman" products, and the "Dirty Dick's House of Crabs" kind of shirt yet I will have to explain all these things to my children. I give on that, so others can give on seeing someone wearing a leash.

Gabrielle, I agree that there is a time and a place for everything, but I also think that a small display of your lifestyle such as wearing a collar shouldn't necessarily be a problem - it is, after all, not really that much different from somebody wearing a crucifix or cross to advertise that part of their lives.

I think (as does the.dark.) that by 'hiding' it, it gives more weight to the unfounded 'taboo' nature of WIITWD than if you are open about it. Parents, I think, will realise that just because you wear a collar it doesn't mean that their 'others' will be exposed to anything inappropriate in the same way that when your 'other' visits them they're not about to be converted to a different religion. What we do, like any other consenting sexual activity between adults, is conducted in private and so there is no reason for anyone to judge you just because you choose to wear a collar in the same way that you would not judge someone for wearing a crucifix.

Ultimately you must do what's comfortable for you, but by being open I think will get you a lot more kudos and acceptance from the other parents than by ultimately being perceived to have been hiding your true self, like a dirty secret.

Hope this makes sense, and/or helps. [:)]

laurell3 -> RE: A Rant: When is enough, enough? (2/3/2008 2:30:19 PM)

Yeah my 20 year old niece has what is actually a collar, although it's not called one and she is definitely not into d/s bdsm.  They as well as other fetishy stuff are kind of a trend right now apparently.

Complete sense thankyou Darcy, i have hidden the real me for too long.  i am not about to set up the dungeon furniture up in the dining room, but i think most of my friends will be accepting of seeing some of me.  Softly softly...

I agree with you in principal, but just throwing this out there for an alternative perspective to the whole thing. I have taken to "hiding it" more recently in my life with my plans to start my own buisness. The reason for this is because part of marketing it will be selling an image of myself and the work I will do will be providing a service to clients that is on a pretty personal level, clients who given the area I work in and their income levels are heavily conservative.

As much as I agree with the ideal, I will always be a pragmatic realist and the world is what it is.

True, i wish you well in your new venture.  i view my vanilla persona as a kind of cloak, to shield those who can't or won't understand, from having to try.  i suppose this is even more important in the business world as you are building up a perceived level of trust.  Anything out of the bog standard and ordinary just would not do...
