My town is ordered by teh fed to go to metered water.  Luckily that takes 5 years.. again the average guy must pay.  Water rates arent too bad- it is the sewer rate that is high!!!

We need working sewers- so- at least it is money well spent.  As T says- water is basic.

It was funny. 2 mini ivy league colleges are here.  Well all that pompous and nose in the air toward us local hicks...one month the toilets were stopped. In  one entire building.  The fanciest of people still must use teh rest room. Thats where god equalized us all.  LOLOL.

anyhow the stench was SOOOO unbearable to these folks.  IM like hmm- I wonder whom defecated that it now smells this way?

LOL- look in the mirror Ho'S  lookie in da mirror.

ok really stupid question---we live in an area where there is a drought---and so mandatory water conservation is in effect --50 gallons per person per day ( go figure your daily usage)--so we have bricks in our already water saving toilets--here is the deal---not enough water to flush the heavy stuff and the need for plungers--oy

what do you do to keep your plunger, uhm sanitary as it sits there--use to use?

LH, lol oh my gawd! Ok I will refrain from laughing as this is a serious problem that you are having.
When I kept getting floods in the old apartment, I had to get something to keep my toilet brush from molding..ect..and germ free. At first I just used a bucket of bleech, then I found a really neat thing to use. An umbrella stand! It was tall enough and pretty too :)
Hope this helps

Wastewater people have a warped siinceof humor.   I have been known to stand outside restrooms with some of the gang and thank people for keeping us employed.   LOL

OMG! That is priceless! lol

I took some friends kids on a tour of the treatment plant once.   I showed them where the shit came out of the digesters (yeah that is where they kill the biohazards for the most part) and squeezed the water out of it leaving a nice brown cake.   One of the 8 yr olds asked me.   Ken   What is that cake?   And I told him it was where we made brownies.   Boy hasn't had chocolate since and is now in college.

It is easy to keep the plungers and bathrooms clean. All You would need is to expose the bathroom to a low dose of gamma radiation. Once the gamma radiation is introduced it will destroy the DNA of the bacteria and viruses, killing them instantly. But watch out, it could cause some mutations of any critters in there, lol.

Our toilet flushes ok, about 90 percent of the time,  but if you have a really fiberous  or big ones then it gets stuck at the opening of where the water goes down, or sometimes it goes down ok but then is stuck  way down in the back and the toilet is then slow to fill back up and acts sluggish.

Maybe a bucket with bleach water in it? Use that as the container for the plunger between plunges. However I do not know if bleach will degrade the material a plunger is made from..  ETA, I have two toilets from 1972 which means they are the heavy water usage ones. Never a need for more than one flush. Now that I'm selling my house (anyone interested??) I have to replace them because they are discolored from seriously hard water and I've decided to take them with me! Who cares if they are a pinky beige porcelen? (sp)I hate those water saver toilets, seems that everyone complains about having to flush-flush-flush every time.

FR:
There is a device called a composting toilet.  It uses no water at all.  What comes out of it is pure clean compost for your flower bed.
