Assuming because an attorney is free they are bad is not necessarily a wise assumption and yes if I was truly not guilty (which is rarely the case) no plea agreement would convince me to plea personally I'd roll my dice with a jury. laurell: It was not my contention that the prosecutor would rise to the position of DA but rather that they would rise within the ranks of ADA which is controlled primarily by felony conviction rate. That public defenders are incompetent as a whole is an unchallenged truth. That a highly competent PD occurs from time to time is also an unchallenged truth. The total truth is that the really competent attorneys eschew both sides of the bar for private practice where the money is much better. I would be the first to agree that highly qualified persons of outstanding abilities will from time to time respond to a feeling of civic duty and stay with either the PD or DA office. thompson

thomson my point is if all one focuses on is their conviction rate and not the reasons to seek a conviction or representing their client (the people), the people they are pissing off today may very well be their boss tomorrow which won't be pretty regardless of conviction rate and most likely will not result in a promotion. Attorneys are fickle like that. [;)]

As for attorneys being fickle....I don't think they are fickle I think they are fucking assholes and if they were all taken out and shot at sunrise I would buy coffee and donuts for anyone who wanted to watch. thompson

Somebody's steroid use must be rotting their brain... you are babbling nonsense (nothing new there, but feel free to explain how mediocre workouts and crappy form produce superior results without steroids).. And while you are at it, feel free to prove your assertion that I've ever worked as a prison guard, or else consider yourself proven to be lying once more. Your links (such as they are) support my point that it isn't the prison guards who are going out and filling the prisons with innocent people, it is the politicians (i.e. judges, prosecutors, and legislators), while the guard's union concerns itself with more immediate concerns like pay. Of course they will announce which political hot button issues they are in favor of, and it should hardly come as a surprise that they lean conservative, but you claimed that they were actually lobbying as in introducing bills with longer sentences for black people, and so forth. Interesting that you are afraid to point fingers at who is really responsible for the bogus war on drugs...could it be your nest that is getting feathered and which you don't want disturbed? Hmmmmm
