I'm looking to get a moped and was wondering if any one had any experience with them that they wanted to share, and is there any thing i should know about them before i get one?

I had one as a pre-teen. It was a Honda...may have been the only type you could buy back then.

So, no experience here. Mine was a piece of trash...I rebuilt it too many times to count. The only time it ever started on it's own was the day the handlebars let go and I wrecked it. I turned, it didn't..when I turned them back they decided to turn. A hundred or so feet of sliding down the street with it falling on top of me. I still have the scars to remind me.

wow, that sounds fun, fun in the same sense being mauled by a bear is fun. but that was back when all you could get where the little Honda ones right so in theory they are better now...in theory

Anyone who says Honda products are trash deserves a serious thrashing and a salty mouthwash. OK?

I would recommend a small motor bike, we say 125 cc, if you say cubic inches then work it for yourself.

I have to agree with the creepy dude in shades and black cap, you gonna get a brick through your window for talking smack about hondas.

Depends what you want to do with it... If you want to comfortably get around town Get a Yamaha or a Kymco 125CC scooter.
If you want to be able to do highway get a 250CC scooter. Either way Yamaha's and Kymco's are your best bet.

Yes as the two others said they have to be better. When I took my muffler off...well I could do 50 on mine...that is when it started. I used to drive it back and forth to school. School was 2 miles away all downhill. Naturally I usually ended up pushing it home.

My biggest problem with my ex's scooter (a Honda, very reliable) was that it had no clutch. Thus when one twisted the accelerator thingy it would shoot off uncontrollably.

The moral of the story is to control your wrist action, unless you want to end up in a mess.

I had a 1967 Lambretta LI 125. This was back in the late 80's early 90's and even then, the parts were hard to come by, but boy, the smell of two stroke was intoxicating!

My parents thought I was only "showing" the bike at rallies and that I didn't really ride it- they would have killed me, especially if they knew some of the crap I pulled, like the time my throttle cable snapped and I pulled the cable out of the housing and made a loop so I could hook it around my foot and still ride, or taped a flashlight to the handlebars so I could ride at night. The day before the helmet law passed, I finally bought a helmet.

My husband had a motorcycle- don't know what kind it was though- he wrecked it before I met him- loose gravel on a freeway on-ramp.

All I can say now as a parent, I'd lock my kid up before I let him have anything on two wheels because there are only two types of motorcycle riders...Ones who have been down, and ones who are going down.

It's usually not the cyclist's fault either- motorists aren't careful enough for cyclists out there, and there are many roads in deplorable condition. Be careful out there and assume that nobody else on the road can see you!

I had a Mofa when I was in Germany. Had a trailer attached to it too. Got me just about everywhere but didn't do well in snow or on black ice.

Let's see...

The utility varies greatly depending on where you are. Are you specifically looking for a moped, as in, an overweight pedal bike with a small engine attached, or are you just thinking in terms of "motorized two-wheeler that isn't a motorcycle"?

In most areas of the U.S., you can buy a moped or scooter of less than 50 ccs engine displacement, and ride it without a license, insurance, etc., as long as you don't break 45 mph with it. Is that what you're looking at, or are you looking for a "big-bore" scooter that you can ride on the highway, etc.?

Might be able to provide more info based on what exactly you're looking for, and what you're looking for it to do...
