MissMorrigan -> RE: health "care"? (2/5/2008 2:40:29 AM)

They may well be legit, Seeks. But you know, there's never a perfect healthcare system. I can only see this as a cock-up on a grand scale. I would still rather sleep at night knowing that I can receive emergency treatment/healthcare regardless of the day or night and know that I don't have the worry of a bill at the end of it. My own mother recently fell ill, she has always placed her stock in private healthcare, flatly refusing to go to the local A & E who would have dealt with her. So she waits til the following morning, consults her GP and tells him she wants to pay privately to be seen by a consultant at a private hospital. He duly makes the appointment and sure enough she ws seen that same day... the consultant tells her that she will need x-rays and a colonoscopy. All of which would have been provided had she gone to the A & E - they couldn't have performed the colonoscopy there and then, but her GP tried to reassure her that it would take FOUR DAYS only to arrange that. She still opted for private care and it cost her £1400 for the consultant to tell her exactly what I did (and Im not a doctor), that she was CONSTIPATED! Sometimes, injustices do occur, Seeks. I'm not blind to the problems within the NHS and given that I have a lifelong condition I am very used to the procedures within the NHS (have also worked within it for a number of years).
