I find it works better after a live relationship has been established, otherwise who knows who is directing you at the other end--its not for Me, but it has worked for those that have a relationship established and distance is an issue.

I do not find online interaction with a webcam to be fake. There are many ways to interact with someone in this way. One merely needs a bit of creativity and imagination and similar desires.
As for things like online spankings... this is possible... if the connection and chemistry between the two people is good.
For example:  I provided a disciplinary session for my pet. We used the computer, the webcam and the telephone. He was required to do all that I instructed. Because I have been able to get into his mind, so to speak, to know him, to know his needs, etc... I am able to make him "feel" it as if I were actually doing it...

It is very possible to make it happen and seem real, be real.

If it works for you then go for it. I understand about the distance problem. Just be safe and use your judgement. If you feel you are being taken advantage of, cut off the relationship right then and there. If you are expected to perform on camera following orders, then perhaps your Domme/Dom can meet you halfway, rewarding you with if video of their own or pictures of them in sexy attire (or nude).

Thank you for providing this wonderful example of an online relationship that works well. People these days overlook the importance of creativiy and imagination. As Akasha said in another thread, 'the mind is the biggest sexual organ.'

Master and I knew eachother for two years before we finally met in person. During those two years he asked me to go on cam for him and I refused except twice to make a couple short little hi-this-is-me-ok-bye messages for him. (Closer to the visit I sent pictures too but live cam was still a limit).
Now that we're together, we've met and we're apart again doing things on cam is ok. (It's no longer a limit of mine but I'm still very shy). I've been very ill since my visit so we haven't been able to try anything, but I know he would enjoy interactions over the cam with voice (either mics or on the phone at the same time) since we can't be together in person right now. I can actually think of a few good ways to play on cam that wouldn't be too fake, especially if you keep a mentality of "I'm doing this for my master/dom/etc" or something like that.
With that attitude, even things that seem pointless or silly have a purpose and help connect you to your master/dom/what have you.

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to make you feel worse, just pointing out, there are clubs  and parties available in Chicago. There is also a very nice Dungeon in Memphis. Now I have never been to Nashville, but what I have been told, it also has a very nice club. Now I realize that not everyone can get to a big city and not everyone thinks it is worth a 1 1/2 drive to go to a play party. I guess it all depends on how badly you want to be there.

I love cam, but I don't really pretend it's anything more than what it is.  I also don't cam with anyone that I'm at least not interested in meeting in real life.

Depends on what you are training. Since this is a BDSM board, I'll assume you're not referring to things like languages, math, martial arts or any of the other things people usually use long distance training for. A cam doesn't give you the options you would have in person, but there are a lot of things that can be taught at a distance. Skills can be acquired through training, and a cam can be a way for someone to supervise it. Not to mention making sure it actually gets done in the first place. It can also be used in interviewing prospective slaves at a distance; for me, living on the other side of the Atlantic from some of them, it's a useful way to test commitment before planning a meeting that will require hours on a plane and hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.

I always view the security angles before doing anything online.  Cams, sharing website info, even sending out pics to people are always at risk of being seen elsewhere.  I was watching Judge Judy the other day and a woman was sueing her x bf (they knew eachother 4 months and lived together for 3 of those months).  She said he had put up the naked pictures she sent him when they were strictly online, and posted them on her myspace page.  The captions were things like, ready, willing and horny... slut wants use, ect.
He of course claimed that she put them up herself.  Judge Judy said, if you don't want to see your naked pictures up on the net, then don't send them to anyone. 
Me.. if I wanted to send someone my naked pics it would not have my face showing.. and if I had identifiable scars, no.. those would be concealed.
