RUBondage -> Good places to get rope? (2/6/2008 8:46:25 AM)

I am a newbie to the scene and have been having a hard time finding good places to buy rope.  I already have some lenghts of rope: one 8ft silk and two 16ft silk.  However, I would like to find more and am not sure where to shop, and where to get higher quality then what I already have.

I am also trying to learn how to tie and have found some good lessons online, but if anyone has any sites that have good diagrams, it would be greatly appreciated

If you are in the UK, I have used http://www.bound-to-please.co.uk/ before and was pleased....

for standard rope, Dom (home) depot, marine suppy stores. If you are not going for silk or hemp you are getting as good quality as "bondage" rope for a whole lot less.

you can also try sites like http://www.rainbowrope.com/

I have to throw in a plug here for Rainbow Rope: http://www.rainbowrope.com/home.html

I ordered some rope from them in December 2007. It was promptly shipped and the USPS says they delivered it but I never received it. In the end I suspect we may have had a holiday package pilferer out and about in our neighborhood that day. I contacted Rainbow Rope to see if they could help track the package down and they sent out another shipment at their expense even though my problem was through no fault of theirs whatsoever. Friends... that is customer service.

I've bought from them several times and have been delighted with my purchase each time. My favorite is the 1/4" solid braid
Multi Filament Polypropylene (MFP) Rope.

You can not beat Home Depot, they carry standard rope (red and white or blue and white) like used in roping and such. Soft but sturdy, easy to tie not to small diameter. And it has best cost

This from the above mentioned site, *****I LOVE THAT SITE**** normally, yum, so dont give up its great.

You may have trouble for a little while downloading the PDF tutorial handouts. I inadvertently let the domain that hosts the RopeFashions downloads expire. It has been renewed, but it may take a couple hours for it to get back online. If you have difficulty, please try again in a bit.

I sell their rope on my site, for a good reason, Its good poly rope, hemp is gorgeous tooo see the other gents for that tooo, I have more somewhere, links that is , but the three Ive mentioned are the best, in my not so humble take on things:)

I also use whatever catches my eye at material shops, that sell curtain cord, cording, but one of my favourites for dragging about all over with me is the stuff I got at homedepot for 6.99 for a hundred foot, its very silky.
Im no expert, i just knows what I like:)

Esinem -> RE: Good places to get rope? (3/5/2008 3:31:13 AM)

Jute rope (6mm, 3-ply) from £0.42 per metre/25c per foot approx. http://www.esinem.com

IMHO, silk and most synthetics are too slippery to hold knots well, plus they have a low burn speed, i.e. get hot more easily when pulled across skin. I am mystified by the Western obsession with hemp. Maybe this is something to do with the myth that  it is traditionally used for Japanese bondage? In Japan, jute is the rope of choice as it is lighter and more silky than hemp.

Personally..i think the best place to find rope would be around me..but..that's another topic..LOL.

We had the good fortune to meet Madame Butterfly http://www.butterflyrope.com/ and work with her silk rope first hand at the winter Fetish Fair Fleamarket http://www.nelaonline.org/fff.php

She offers a very unique "rope destroyed in the name of safety" service where she will replace, at reduced cost,  any rope cut off because of an emergency. Here is the quote from her site:

Cutting the rope

My rope is relatively expensive yet I don’t want any of my customers to have qualms about cutting it when the situation seems necessary.

No rope is worth more than the well-being of a person. If any of my customers (past and present) find themselves in the position of having to cut my silk rope to avoid pain and suffering please do so!

If you send me the cut parts and a post mortem of the situation I will forgo the minimum order and give a discount for any replacement rope/s.

I cant figure it out eaither. I think it is half from the 'tradation' junkies claiming that hemp is what the ancient masters from feudal japan used. And half idol worship. Midori uses hemp. Graydancer uses hemp. Lee Harington uses hemp. So I should use hemp also.

Ironic seeing as that most people *IN* japan use jute.
