In NYC they tried to pass a law demanding fast food places have large posters listing calorie content of every dish. But they objected to demanding the same of other restaurants. So if they made a half pound burger with large order of fries in the place down the block suddenly that didn't have any calories and only McDonald burgers did? Not to mention some of the places in Little Italy with huge bowls of spaghetti and meatballs, or fried mozzarella etc.

I'm genuinely not trying to attack you- I just can't believe someone can seriously have those thoughts in their head and not at least feel like they are doing damage to themselves by holding on to such inaccurate negativity.

It's kind of a shame, in my opinion, that small and prejudiced minds are not as easily recognized as fat bodies. If they were- maybe a similar bill could be presented that would prevent such people eating at restaurants as well. I get the feeling that many, many people would be eating exclusively at home. Yes, obesity can cause health problems. Pretty sure everybody knows that already, though. So, suggesting (or supporting) a law that is dscriminatory is going to help how, exactly? We tend to guard our rights pretty vehemently. Yet, somehow- this seems okay to many otherwise seemingly intelligent people. I don't understand it. There have been many overweight people in my life over the years, and I'm apalled at the way they are treated. Anybody care to explain it to me?

hmm. so, if this did actually become law, how would they test obesity? would they have a scale at the entrance? see, i'm clinically obese, but i look just a bit overweight - even my doctors have to double check my weight to realize that yes, i am actually obese. so because i look more proportional, does that mean i would get in, or are they going to weigh me and do the math at the entrance? annabelle, who is trying to ignore certain posts in this thread and not let them get to her.

annabelle: Kudos for you trying not to let them get to you! For me, personally, I'm a registered Libertarian. I do not appreciate rules and laws that restrict people's personal freedoms. Does everyone have the right to live in relative peace whether or not I agree/disagree with their choices---? I think so, thus this law seems foolish to me. As a side note I was recently reading about the amount of toxins present in our food and products, why are people not up on some fanatical high horse about things that are actually hurting everyone?

greetings nikolette, thanks. hugs and that would be the same reason why nobody actually wants to address the causes of the obesity epidemic, they just want to hate on the fat people - because actually giving a damn requires, you know, contributing something and really (gasp) thinking about it. respectfully, annabelle.

There are labels everywhere and still the cattle can't make good choices. FR I can't believe all these "for your own good" laws, both passed and proposed. Who made any lawmaker my father or mother? I may be a submissive, but I have a brain and I know how to use it. I have read the statistics, and I know the arguments for and against the wisdom of certain actions. I am capable of drawing my own conclusion. So are the majority of citizens. It's time legislatures kept their fingers out of our personal lives. Yes, I am a registered Libertarian, too.

The guy said in the story he didn't expect his own law to pass. He knows it won't. He also know that with his dimensions, HE would be unable to eat in a restaurant because of his own law against it. He stated the entire reason for suggesting such a ludicrous law was just that - it's ludicrous and people will not stop talking about it, thus awareness of the problem will be raised. That was all he wanted.

I'm afraid the people that made law makers their mothers and fathers are the ones crying out for government regulation of the airways and cable channels because they can't watch their own child so they want the government to do it. It's the people who sue places like McDonald's for making them fat when EVERYONE knows FULL WELL that McDonald's doesn't even rate on the health-food list. It's the people who demanded that they pass a law to force fast food places change to using vegetable oil because using lard was gasp unhealthy, as though they were somehow forced to eat there and had no choice BUT to eat the lard-cooked food.

So why did this thread all of a sudden turn into chinese haters and making fun of obese people??? i guess most of the of people on this thread are discriminatory against bigger people, and know only chinese jokes. Hmm interesting. It's not just chinese people, but people of all race. And thank you OrionTheWolf, i have to agree with your opening statement," will you STFU about fat chinese now? i have nothing against bigger people, actually my Dom is a bigger guy and he's the most cuddly person i've met. Plus when we go to a buffet, he will only go up a couple times and that's it. i am not an overweight/obese person in anyway, but i still don't get why you all of a sudden refer only to chinese buffet lines and only chinese people. There are other types of buffets out there and other people.
