I belive parents should have the right to abortion untill there kids turn the age of legal adults. Hell, if Abortion is going to be legal, then it needs be done right or not done at all.

Amen.

We could probably raise the age of majority to 35 along the way, though I'd be inclined to compromise at 25, of course. [;)]

Health,

I believe that Robert Heinlein was right: only those who have served a tour in the U.S. military should be allowed to run for president.  Reason: Those who actuallly served would be less likely to put others in harm's way.

Meanwhile, veteran US presidential McCain (and war veteran that that, not merely a miltary veteran) wants to keep putting more troops in harm's way if elected, whereas his opponent candidates with no military experience want to minimize the number.

Denying a crucial bit of reality in order to explore what might result is a great way to get a science fiction story started. But I'm gonna agree with you that it'd be a controversial way to qualify a presidential candidate.

Truth to tell, I've been ignoring McCain because I just can't take him seriously.

But, consider that if Heinlein's rule had been in place by the 2000 election, George W. Bush would not have been allowed to run, and we wouldn't be in the mess that we are today!

People with beards should have their beards superglued to the ceiling so that they dangle from the ceiling by their beards. OK that isn't a real opinion of mine but it just created a nice visual of people dangling by their beards in my head.[8|]

I beleive that people who feel the need to stop other people from having abortions should not be allowed to buy condoms or birth control...

Because every sperm is sacred....

If this isn't a joke.. then who the hell values sperm?  It's the fetus that's genetically human, similiar to a human, and far more potentially an adult human.

While I'm pretty sure you're joking, I do have to assert some reason into something that sounds like a possible abortion sentiment.  :P

1) That the prisoners in Guantanamo didn't get nearly the beatings that they deserved.
and
2) That birth control should be mandatory world-wide and you should have to take an IQ test before you're allowed to have kids.

Including the ones that were found innocent and released?

I should add a new controversial opinion: you need to be deprived of the assumption of innocence until proven guilty. [:D]

Okay... but you make no mention of a minimum score.... is it just to "do one's duty" to provide a statistically good sample?

Somehow, I doubt your intention was to say that a score of 20 qualifies to have kids.

If you raise the limit to 60, half of New Guinea can't have them.

There is no intrinsic problem with eugenics. The problem that usually accompanies it is monoculture and loss of genetic diversity.
Another problem, again not intrinsic, is that people usuallly want to do subtractive eugenics; i.e. removing something.
Equally controversial, but unproblematic, is passive or additive eugenics; i.e. incentive to shift the balance.
For that matter, requiring a parenthood licence would be eugenics, too; I hear no complaints. [:D]

kittinSol -> RE: What are some of your most controversial opinions? (2/9/2008 1:06:13 PM)

I'm firmly against this idea of a parenthood licence.

I mean... what the fuck, people [:(] ?

Actually, 20's not too bad.  Considering that an IQ score of 20 means that you're smarter than 20 percent of the rest of the population, and in my world everyone would take one.... That weeds out approximately 1.3 billion people from breeding. (based on current world pop of  6.6B).

This science died when people realised that evolution works best when random genes are mixed together rather than individually selected through breeding. All people have defects in their chromosomes, these defects only become apparent as diseases when those recessive genes are all there is to choose from.

So sure you can breed athletes but they are more likely to also end up with haemophilia, sickle cell anaemia, osteoporosis etc. Hybrid theory is that the best genetic mix is a diverse one and you don’t get that by limiting the gene pool by only allowing people with a certain IQ to reproduce. The idea of eugenics is counter productive to itself and has long been realised as such.

I believe that even if the hair on your head is kinky-curly, by all that is right and holy it should not remain in the shower/tub after your exit.

Isn't it time for the Vatican to open all doors, books, and scrolls for everyone to read? Let's see where all the money comes from and where it really goes. Let's see why certain choices and descisons where really made in the name of God.

You're inserting reason into a Monty Python reference.....

Not sure if that's controversial....but it just seems wrong.
