ORIGINAL: ownandkeep What are some of yours? Controversial by what yardstick? I have yet to encounter more than a handful of people who don't consider any of my opinions highly controversial by their own standards, and that handful is probably just because I haven't gone very far in covering some of the more controversial ones. If we go by a common yardstick of prevailing Western schools of thought, the question is: do I have any opinions that are uncontroversial? Some of the more obvious ones include the idea that any morality is equally valid, and that evil can only exist in the presence of good, or that both of those are useless concepts if not outright damaging. The idea that consent is rather irrelevant doesn't tend to go down well in BDSM communities. The idea that Saul of Tarsus was the closest thing to an antichrist the world has seen doesn't sit well with most Christians. The idea that Communism and Fascism are the same point on a circle, approached clockwise and counterclockwise respectively doesn't sit well with politicians. The idea that jungle law is the only law doesn't sit well with those who think otherwise. That SSRIs are useless isn't particularly welcomed by psychiatrists. The idea that psychology is a field devoid of content doesn't sit well with psychologists. The notion that patterns are a sign of using the wrong tool for the job isn't well thought of among programmers. That culture and morality are basically the same as language doesn't go over well with cognitive scientists. That the universe may be a MMORPG for our souls isn't well thought of by physicists. That hitting someone mandates a willingness to kill them doesn't go down well with most people. That people are not entitled to liberty doesn't seem to sit well with just about anyone. That bacteria have the same value and claim to life as humans isn't usually considered kosher, either. We could try to examine less obvious ones, or even more obvious ones, but I think the TOS would prohibit most of the best examples. Health, al-Aswad.
