This is Darcy

I visit Amsterdam farily regularly due to work commitments, and I have to say the first time I went for a look around the red light district I was susrprised at how un-sleazy it was.

Compared to Soho in London, Amsterdam's red light area is clean, feels safe and is actually a pleasure to wander through, though some of the 'girls' on display could be serious contenders for proof of the missing link theory. Don't get me wrong, I love Soho and London, but Soho does have that feeling of being dirty and slighty unsafe, which is not necessarily a negative thing, as it adds to the whole atmosphere.

My biggest complaint with Amsterdam is, ironically, the lack of many decent sex shops with quality toys and accesories. Everything is either cheap tat, or in the few 'upmarket' shops, so ridiculously expensive compared to Soho.

The area around the Vondelpark is way better than the red light district, which is getting too sleazy. Cleaning it up a bit would be great so long as you don't actually kill that great A-dam spirit of freedom.

Now, banning psychedelic mushrooms, that's the real issue...

I read somewhere that most of the hookers in Amsterdam are not Dutch but mostly "Eastern European and Russian" these days.
Is that true?

there is soemthing for every one. It is like every shop over here in Holland..if the costumer aks...then the warez will be delivered.
Besides that..the legal hookers have weekly or monthly health checks.
If you go outside the district and visit foreign hookers..you can be easily infected....well also by dutch hookers..lol

well if people die because the mushroom drug doses gets to high...I can understand it.

Every decent city has decent sex shops with quality toys..in the normal shopping centre. Don't look for them in the red light district..they have an other kind op people visiting..lol
