Like 1984 all the predictions came early. I am actually not proud of the fact that I have not read 1984, but I have read what others have written about it. Many say when they read it decades ago it was scary, but now it's pretty mundane.

The song by Zager and Evans is available on P2P, and I am sure you can get the lyrics with a Google search.

"In the year 2525 if Man is still alive"

Hell, let's talk 2025. I'll be 65, or will I ? Things are going to erupt sooner or later, we just can't keep our thumb on 130 countries forever.

"Ain't gonna have to tell the truth, tell no lies, everything you think do and say is in the pill you took today"

The lyricist must have read 1984. However he was off on the year. Look over in Health and safety and see that even in this community, on CM, people are quite intelligent, they should be able to sort out their problems instead of going on SSRIs. I am quite surprised to find so many on drugs. I avoid drugs like the plague, and I attribute that to intelligence. Not to blow my own horn, but I haven't had an aspirin in over thirty years. I beat my depression on my own, but that is apparently a lost art anymore. It used to be called "pulling yourself up by the bootstraps".

"Ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes, won't find a thing to chew, nobody's gonna look at you".

I don't mean to get analytical on you, no actually I do. Some things are natural fact, and when you age, that perfect eyesight is usually out the window by your forties. Usually you need reading glasses, and without them, you partner's wrinkles are not so apparent. Enjoy. And I do not want to dwell on tooth decay, but by forty most people have had more done in dental work than the sum total of all the health care I have recieved in my life. Why is a whole different subject though.

"Your arms hanging limp at your sides, your legs have nothing to do, some machine's doing that for you"

I almost don't have to say anything. Look at the old people in those scooters or power chairs. Fifty years ago at that age they would still be plowing a field. Arms limp at your sides I take as a portend of the fact that we don't make anything here anymore. And a service based economy does not survive. When the song was written we did make things here, but it seems the author could see it coming.

"You pick your son, pick your daughter too, from the bottom of a long glass tube"

I really don't know what to say, you already know. It has already happened.

"If God is coming he oughtta make it by then, maybe he'll look around himself and say, guess it's time for judgement day".

Oh boy, look at the world. Everybody is out to fuck over everybody else, with some exceptions. If there is a God in the Judeo-Christian sense, he would be here now. Man's inhumanity to Man, even though it has been practiced for a very long time, is now reaching a scale where the Biblical prophesy "Men shall seek death and not find it" is becoming a reality.

One day I was about to commit suicide. Too hard to find a gun on short notice, can't stick a knife in an electric outlet because we have GFI. Stabbing yourself is a very hard thing to do. And I had no sword to fall on. To actually have the possibility of death imminent is what saved me. The final decision time came and I decided NO, FUKUM. Maybe everybody should go through a time like this, unfortunately some may go through with it. I obviously didn't, but I was so close. It is that moment when depression is gone. Do you want your life or not ? If you say yes, you are pretty much over it. Or you can take drugs and never resolve the issue. That is our world today.

"Or tear us down and start again"

If we ever start the plan of eradicating 80% of the world's population as I advocate, we start with politicians and the rich. Us peons will re-form a government that will never let them rape us as they have in the past and do in the present.

"Taken everything this old Earth can give, and put back nothing"

I am not sure that I have much to add to this line. Wars are fought for natural resources, countries and peoples exploited just because in their ground has phosphorus or cadmium .Or oil.

Seeing the big picture, a bigger picture than most, I can see this. I am not talking tree hugging here. I am talking about the fact that many minerals are mined and used to make killing machines when they belong in the soil in which our food is grown. And this is going on for a long time. Go have a look at senate document 264, and if you do, note the date.

"Man has cried a billion tears, for what he never knew, now Man's reign is through, but through eternal light, the twinkling of starlight, so very far away, maybe it's only yesterday"

Oh boy. Maybe you have a loved one who died in a war, possibly Iraq. Do you know why ? The apparent answer is that he was standing there when the bulet came along, but that is the simple answer. The question is why was he standing there and why was the bullet fired in the first place ? You won't like the answer.

Maybe it is in fact yesterday in a sense. You look at the human race as a whole and you can rightly conclude that we have not advanced. If the prevailing religions were right we would be living in harmony with everybody, there would be no wars. But that is not how it is. Religion has failed miserably to guide humanity, and that is why I reject it totally.

While I reject religion, that does not mean their book is useless. I have read Revelations more than once, and I conclude that the Bible is full of wisdom. It is occluded by quaint stories and writings though, and is hard to understand.

What they did is make a thousand page book out of two words : Be nice.

You see, people do not have an open mind, and many can't even grasp anecdotal lessons. People are prejudiced against the Protocols, though they contain as much truth as Revelations. And I said PREJUDICED.

YES, PREJUDICED. People reject the document before ever reading it. The few who have read it might or might not understand. You must read the whole thing. When you get to the end you see that they do want peace, but they just don't trust anyone else to achieve it. The beginning part is considered trials and tribulations, but the goal really is world peace, and a one world government, or a super government. A world in which gains are not made on the battlefield, they are achieved in court.

Just because I have read and understand the Protocols doesn't mean I am an anti-Semite. It really doesn't say anything nastier than the old tesstament. But I will say this much, you can get it online, or from me, and if you choose to comment on the Protocols, even to call them fake or whatever, read it first. If you haven't read it your opinion has no value. Don't waste my time.

Prophesy can be found in alot of places, songs etc. I look to see what is true. Zager and Evans expressed something to me. I just listened to it. I admit it is simplistic, and what the lyrics turned out to be is one thing, but if you listen to it and substitute your age for the years the lyrics say, it is scaringly true. Not 100%, but a bit too close for comfort.

What was said in that song was meant to depict thew decline of the whole human race, but it is pretty clear that these things do happen in the course of a human life.

I will stop now. I have a general rule anymore. When the square in the scrollbar on the right of this text is square, that is enough. If you have read all this and are down here, thank you for being diligent or whatever, not sure of the word.

But I am here to get others' opinions. I could go on all day, but then everybody would blow it off.

The song scared me, and I ws just a child when it was released. It spoke of a future that was so bleak, that I was sure that the world would end, before I got to be an adult. I will not be alive to see the year 2525, and at the rate this woorld is spinning, no one else will be either. Read the words, heed the warnings.
In The Year 2525

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do, or say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
Ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to do
Nobody's gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs not nothing to do
Some machine is doing that for you

In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long black tube

In the year 7510
If God's a-comin' he ought to make it by then
Maybe he'll look around himself and say
Guess it's time for the Judgement day

In the year 8510
God's gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man's gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing

Now it's been 10,000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through
But through the eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do or say
Is in the pill you took today ...

What's wierd is that you feel qualified to comment on a book you have never read, but insist others must read a book in its entirety several times before they can comment on it.  Is there anything to call that but a double standard?

You really ought to give 1984 a read, Termy.  As science fiction, it seems horribly dated, in that Orwell completely missed computers, much less the internet.  If can you suspend your disbelief of what he got wrong, the story of human nature in dystopia is timeless.

Honestly though, the lyrics from the song put me much more in mind of Huxley's Brave New World.

OK lucky, I did not say to read 1984, and my comments were very brief an tertiary. I did not even mention the red pill blue pill thing I heard of. The Protocols are much abashed. That is the difference.

1984 is not refuted or anything. I do actually intend to read it, my comments on it were very limited. And I do intend to read 1984.

But what I have read of course had an effect.

If you want an idea, I have read the Protocols, The Turner Diaries and part of Hunter. I have read and almost understand Secret Weapons For Secret Wars, purportedly written by one of the richest Men in the world.

In it he equates a country's economy to an electronic ciruit, where production is inductance, savings or reserve is capacitance and taxes are resistance. Even I do not have the ability to understand it completely, and I am not stupid.

Secret weapons, the Protocols, whatever, you don't accept them, but you accept the Bible. Tell me why.

An old saying "Out of the mouths of babes". Is whoever wrote that song annointed or something ? Special in some way ?

What do we believe and why ? Five thousand years ago some guy wrote something, that is gospel, but other things are just junk. Just how do you make that determination ?

Truth can come from anywhere, and so can lies.

Luckydog,
Is this comment meant for me? You replied TO me. If so, I don't understand the comment.

PS: faerytattoodgirl, what is wrong with 50+? You make it sound so OLD. :)

Edited to add: Luckydog, nevermind. I see what you are refering to now.

If you would like to understand more about Revelation, you might want to start with There's a New World Coming by Hal Lindsey.  If you can't find it new, I am sure you can pick it up via Amazon as a used book.  It is not a heavy read, and is a good way to start.  Lindsey is not only a biblical scholar but a fine linguist who includes explanation regarding translation.
In referencing some of the other things you wrote about here, I think you might find more than a few of your current beliefs/understandings dovetailing nicely with Revelation.
Just a suggestion.
I see it coming.  Frankly, it doesn't scare Me.

If you meant Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars, that's a fun little read.  Not as over the top as Protocols.

I hate to break it to you but the 'peons' have tried that little number before and the governments they build always end up just as if not more greedy and corrupt as the very thing the sought to combat.

I really think that more people should read Huxley’s brave new world, its alot better then 1984 and actually presents a dystopia/utopia that may actually function and is actually insidious in nature.

why not shoot a little closer to the present? Rush fans unite... 2112 I have an odd feeling the lyrics are going to be way off, but here they are along with a bit of backstory mixed in

"I lie awake, staring out at the bleakness of Megadon. City and sky become one, merging into a single plane, a vast sea of unbroken grey. The Twin Moons, just two pale orbs as they trace their way across the steely sky. I used to think I had a pretty good life here, just plugging into my machine for the day, then watching Templevision or reading a Temple Paper in the evening.

"My friend Jon always said it was nicer here than under the atmospheric domes of the Outer Planets. We have had peace since 2062, when the surviving planets were banded together under the Red Star of the Solar Federation. The less fortunate gave us a few new moons.
I believed what I was told. I thought it was a good life, I thought I was happy. Then I found something that changed it all..."

I. Overture

And the meek shall inherit the earth...

II. Temples of Syrinx

... "The massive grey walls of the Temples rise from the heart of every Federation city. I have always been awed by them, to think that every single facet of every life is regulated and directed from within! Our books, our music, our work and play are all looked after by the benevolent wisdom of the priests..."

We've taken care of everything
The words you hear, the songs you sing
The pictures that give pleasure to your eyes.
It's one for all and all for one
We work together, common sons
Never need to wonder how or why.

We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx
Our great computers fill the hallowed halls.
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
All the gifts of life are held within our walls.

Look around at this world we've made
Equality our stock in trade
Come and join the Brotherhood of Man
Oh, what a nice, contented world
Let the banners be unfurled
Hold the Red Star proudly high in hand.

We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx
Our great computers fill the hallowed halls.
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
All the gifts of life are held within our walls.

III. Discovery

... "Behind my beloved waterfall, in the little room that was hidden beneath the cave, I found it. I brushed away the dust of the years, and picked it up, holding it reverently in my hands. I had no idea what it might be, but it was beautiful" ...

... "I learned to lay my fingers across the wires, and to turn the keys to make them sound differently. As I struck the wires with my other hand, I produced my first harmonious sounds, and soon my own music! How different it could be from the music of the Temples! I can't wait to tell the priests about it! ..."

What can this strange device be?
When I touch it, it gives forth a sound
It's got wires that vibrate and give music
What can this thing be that I found?

See how it sings like a sad heart
And joyously screams out its pain
Sounds that build high like a mountain
Or notes that fall gently like rain.

I can't wait to share this new wonder
The people will all see its light
Let them all make their own music
The Priests praise my name on this night.

IV. Presentation

... "In the sudden silence as I finished playing, I looked up to a circle of grim, expressionless faces. Father Brown rose to his feet, and his somnolent voice echoed throughout the silent Temple Hall." ...

... "Instead of the grateful joy that I expected, they were words of quiet rejection! Instead of praise, sullen dismissal. I watched in shock and horror as Father Brown ground my precious instrument to splinters beneath his feet..."

I know it's most unusual
To come before you so
But I've found an ancient miracle
I thought that you should know
Listen to my music
And hear what it can do
There's something here as strong as life
I know that it will reach you.

Yes, we know, it's nothing new
It's just a waste of time
We have no need for ancient ways
The world is doing fine
Another toy will help destroy
The elder race of man
Forget about your silly whim
It doesn't fit the plan.

I can't believe you're saying
These things just can't be true
Our world could use this beauty
Just think what we might do.
Listen to my music
And hear what it can do
There's something here as strong as life
I know that it will reach you.

Don't annoy us further!
We have our work to do.
Just think about the average
What use have they for you?
Another toy will help destroy
The elder race of man
Forget about your silly whim
It doesn't fit the Plan!

V. Oracle: The Dream

... "I guess it was a dream, but even now it all seems so vivid to me. Clearly yet I see the beckoning hand of the oracle as he stood at the summit of the staircase" ...

... "I see still the incredible beauty of the sculptured cities and the pure spirit of man revealed in the lives and works of this world. I was overwhelmed by both wonder and understanding as I saw a completely different way to life, a way that had been crushed by the Federation long ago. I saw now how meaningless life had become with the loss of all these things ..."

I wandered home though the silent streets
And fell into a fitful sleep
Escape to realms beyond the night
Dream can't you show me the light?

I stand atop a spiral stair
An oracle confronts me there
He leads me on light years away
Through astral nights, galactic days
I see the works of gifted hands
That grace this strange and wondrous land
I see the hand of man arise
With hungry mind and open eyes

They left the planet long ago
The elder race still learn and grow
Their power grows with purpose strong
To claim the home where they belong
Home to tear the Temples down...
Home to change!

VI. Soliloquy

... "I have not left this cave for days now, it has become my last refuge in my total despair. I have only the music of the waterfall to comfort me now. I can no longer live under the control of the Federation, but there is no other place to go. My last hope is that with my death I may pass into the world of my dream, and know peace at last."

The sleep is still in my eyes
The dream is still in my head
I heave a sigh and sadly smile
And lie a while in bed
I wish that it might come to pass
Not fade like all my dreams...

Just think of what my life might be
In a world like I have seen!
I don't think I can carry on
Carry on this cold and empty life

My spirits are low in the depths of despair
My lifeblood...
...spills over...

VII. The Grand Finale
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
We have assumed control.
We have assumed control.
We have assumed control.

Yeah, 1984... what a crazy book, eh? So silly! Whoever would believe a book about:

A government that uses an ongoing war as an excuse to break it's own laws.

That would torture people, because they think differently, and do so without trial.

That would create a "Just say no" movement called the "Junior anti-sex leauge" (who would wear signifiers to show that they had agreed to abstinence)

That would create a "Ministry of Information" (or a TV channel called Fox News) that continuously rewrites history (or spins the news) in a favorable direction for those in power?

That would keep it's citizens under constant surveilance?

Yeah, that's just crazy talk!

Phin I also burn the midnight oil, and only stop for the best.

Rush 2112 I believe is one of the best musical works around. Alot of their best work did not make top 40, I think because people do not want to think. I was told by an old friend who is dead now that alot of their songs were based on a set of books. Things like Bytor and the snow dog and all that. Wouldn't mind giving them a read as well.

Years ago I completely gave up music. For a period of about three years I did not listen to anything. When I started again I listened critically to everything. Very critically.

"Why don't we dump um people, to the bottom of the sea, fore some ol fool comes around here, wanna shoot either you ar me".

Those words have gotten Lernard Skinard banished from my life, my collection and everything. Let's get rid of our guns in case somebody wants to shoot us. BULLSHIT, shoot them !

I got political. I also have no Springsteen. Coming out with Born in the USA when he is a dual citizen befronts me. He makes most of his money here. It's a bunch of bullshit.

I make one exception for Billy Joel, a guy who would take a ride in an ambulance to a concert. You mean to tell me he had no cellphone with which to call a cab ? Bullshit. But Stiletto is good enough to make my collection.

I got very critical. Most people do not really think of lyrics, they just listen. Those words go directly to the brain without the normal processing of the concious mind. I am extremely critical of them.

The downside is that I cannot enjoy music the way I used to. Not only am I critical of the words, now I want to figure out the guitar rifs and all that to use in my own creations, although I have no intention of plagurizing (sp).

Maybe it is not a good idea to become like me. I analyse everything. I can't enjoy things like others do. I constantly seek the author's motives.

I think Mod11's brain must be about fucked by now. Figuring what is a hijack and what is not would be rough on this thread. Hell I don't even know what it was really about at this point. Is it about lyrics or the human condition ? Or who knows ?

I vote for "Who knows ?".

How about lyrics of the human condition?  Here's a set I like.

There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunligh
And the oaks ignore their pleas

The trouble with the maples
(and theyre quite convinced theyre right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the oaks cant help their feelings
If they like the way theyre made
And they wonder why the maples
Cant be happy in their shade?

There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the maples scream `oppression!`
And the oaks, just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
the oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light
Now theres no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet,
Axe,
And saw ...

PS: faerytattoodgirl, what is wrong with 50+? You make it sound so OLD. :)

i wont live much past 50 because i have no ambition and very little reason to.  not to mention my 6th heart surgery is coming and ive been clinically dead twice in previous surgerys.  so chances are slim.

Dude, you really need to up your dosage, your paranoia is getting worse by the day.

Dude, it's only paranoia if the feelings aren't based in real events.
