It's like talking in your sleep. Or laughing. I laugh in my sleep a lot. I do the 'Muahahahahaha' type of laugh too. Apparently, it's quite spooky  .

Why wouldn't it be possible? If we dream we have the stimuli to feel the emotion and react accordingly.

your subconsous controls you while you sleep just like a reflex more or less, just because your asleep doesnt mean your mind is its just useing another part we dont have complete control over but you can control some dreams with practice

thats called premonition.   i had dreams like this almost every night up till about age 25.  most things would happen the next day exactly as is but i could change the outcome in some cases.  but it sucked cause i wouldnt dream about sports or things i could bet on :( otherwise i'd be rich.

Okay, I'm not an expert, but this is a vague understanding:

In your sleep, you have images and such: dreams.  You often still try to move in these dreams, but your nerves are impaired (intentionally) to prevent it, effectively blocking the signals.  Some things like breathing and heart rhythem aren't impaired.  Sometimes, too, other things aren't.. such as, apparently, the walking command lines for sleep walkers.  (The last sentence is more heavily speculative than the others.)

In any case, it's likely a reaction that you were trying to enactin your dream, and the inhibators failed to block you from actually performing it; so you did.

I've cried, laughed, and talked in my sleep... it doesn't happen often but it's happened. I don't have the answers of why it happens, but for me, it usually happens when there's a lot going on in my life. Now, get my ex in one of my dreams, and I'll curse, cry, and laugh all in the same dream... go figure.

angelikaj ~ You orgasm in your sleep? You lucky lucky girl.... I've woken up wet, does that mean I came when I was asleep

I'm not sure how one cries in their sleep, but I have woke up several times over the years crying...tears and all.

I have also awakened to find myself crying. I've also awakened to find my pussy wet after a really good dream. Did I orgasm and miss it, or was that just from arousal? Who cares?

I have awakened in extreme pain from "phantom pain" (a curse of amputees) that was so bad I woke up screaming. But the pain, despite its name, was very real, not a dream.

I guess I was wondering more what's behind it, not that it's not possible.

I don't get the question. Are you asking what the physical process is?

We often imagine and actually feel as if we are living in a dream. I have actually managed to urinate in a dream...without wetting the bed. RARE...yes, but a indication that dreams can be real enough to act upon just about anything and still be dreaming. So crying or sobbing over something in a dream...of course.

Some dreams are so fantastic, I know almost right away...that I am dreaming and not to worry.

I think men often dream their fantasies...women dream their emotions.

What is behind it? How are you going to sleep? Are you going through extreme stress? How is your relationships at work etc etc. What are your dreams about are you eating somthing before your sleep that could be causing stomach or allergic problems. Crying in your sleep is just like crying when your awake. Somthing is bothering emotionally happy or sad in some cases or in others somthing so gorgeus. Is there pain? Now thats a key are you having headaches etc etc...your tear ducts still work even when your eyes are closed try closing them sometime after your crying lol if you think on it.
