Would it be fair to say your comments summarize thusly:
Trust a stranger with a gun and a badge.
You can if you wish. I look at that badge, I look at that gun, and I choose to be suspicious of the person toting them around until that person proves he or she is not a threat.
From all that I have experienced and observed of these folk you loft up onto a pedestal, odds are heavily in favor of them proving themselves to be a threat, and a far greater threat to my safety than any criminal I might encounter.
