ORIGINAL: TheKingofKings All religion did not derive from Christianity, because Christ, one, was a fictional character and, two, there were deities around up to 3000 years before Christ that had the EXACT same story. Christ was not fictional, divine questionable, but real yes. The reason Christianity has close resemblance to older religions is because when the Roman noble classes converted to Christianty at the behest of the Emperor Constantine there was a conscious effort made to include a)their household gods. b)the practices and rituals they were used to perfroming (ditto festival dates etc) and c) to remove the varied religions of the slave population would have resulted in the butchery or Rome almost over night. The Cult of Isis (one of the most powerful and widespread cults at the time) was assimilated into what Catholics now practie as reverence to the Virgin Mary None of the above is particulalry ground breaking. Its just called being informed. It goes much further than stealing festivals and outer trappings The story of the dying and rising God-man is as old as recorded history itself, and was found all over for centuries before Jesus. The similarities with the story of Jesus are not just frequent or circumstantial either - the Jesus story is directly drawn from the other dying and rising God-man religions with themes, characters, motifs etc found alike across all those religions. Christianity is merely the Judaic form of these religions. As such not a problem - the problem is in its insistence that it is unique, which it isnt, and which insistence led to persecution and despicable violence and vandalism. E
