I hate the 'protected'.

What's the protector do? leap through the internet and beat potential suitors with a big stick?

sunshinemiss -> RE: CM phrases you would like to see banned! (2/19/2008 4:38:16 PM)

dominate for dominant

And can we please learn what a paragraph is?  And that posts are allowed to have more than one.

severetorture -> RE: CM phrases you would like to see banned! (2/19/2008 4:45:58 PM)

I'm just happy that people even use phrases in their profiles at this point, I mean somedays I think it has all come down to quoting poems or rhyming senseless lines that tell nothing of oneself. At least the phrase would be used in the context of stating one's actual feelings, not just hitching onto another's words.
However, if I could suggest one small improvement, please collarme, please institute spellcheck as a service here. At least this way, we wouldn't find out that the person in the profile is an illiterate moron until we actually converse with them.
Making friends is so special.

tsk tsk tsk... how many times do we have to repeat that little saying about assuming something? [8D]

Actually, sweetwenchie; i've discovered that contrary to popular opinion, assuming doesn't make an ass out of you and me, simply you.

note: the word "you" as used above is intended in the general sense; not directed at the pretty gal with sexy red hair and generous smile.

I'm sorry.....I didn't read all these....I got stuck on darch's new pic......uh.....what was the topic?

Oh not sure I want it gone, but my god almost everything under the sun gets a "topping from the bottom" comment these days.....apparently breathing is topping from the bottom as is speaking.....and I still zone out anything that is said by anyone that thinks "ur" is a word.

MadameDahlia -> RE: CM phrases you would like to see banned! (2/19/2008 6:18:31 PM)

Okay. I know this is probably nitpicking but... tough. I've managed to wrap my mind around "lol" and the normal Internet short hands. I get that they're not going away. Unfortunately. But stop using "lololololol" What the hell is that? "Laughing out loud out loud out loud out loud out loud"?! It's just... wrong!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Redicilous. Okay it isn't a phrase but it seems that form of spelling has taken over and I swear it makes me grit my teeth every time I read it. The word is NOT redicilous!Ridiculous. R 'I' diculous.

MissMorrigan -> RE: CM phrases you would like to see banned! (2/20/2008 9:47:27 AM)

When people banter I often see the comment, "I resemble that remark", which grates given that it should be, "I resent that remark."

Luscious, the "I'm real, you be too" also has me rolling eyes.

I would also like to see installed a shock feature attached to emails so that every time a person composes an email that starts with, "Baby, hit me up on yahoo" or, "Kneels and kisses your feet with respect, Goddess" they get a rather nasty surprise, although I'd much rather kick a few teeth out during their faux kneeling phase.

Way back in the days I was in High School when we said "I resemble that remark" it was what we meant.  It was usually used to deflect someone's attempt at insult.  For example: someone calls me a slut am I going to say "I resemble that remark" or "resent that remark"?

edit to correct my inability to type

FR

Celtic Lord mentioned the "collar of consideration" and this is really starting to chap my hide.

m'Lord and I have a transitionary agreement based on the fact that I am in, well, transition.  Right now I live and work in another city and the covenant that we'd like can't work until I move.  We don't consider our agreement a "collar of consideration" but it was the phrase that others understand better then our own jargon between us.

I guess it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't thing-- we use our own jargon and people ask us what the hell we are talking about, we use recognized phrases and we get told that it's bullshit.

MissMorrigan -> RE: CM phrases you would like to see banned! (2/20/2008 12:47:02 PM)

Luscious, I don't mind text speak as much, that's b/c I rarely encounter someone of my son's generation that can formulate proper sentences, that's b/c they spend so much time texting they then have difficulty getting out of that habit. What I really dislike is when a person has been browsing dominant females' profiles, so they know my orientation, yet are still bloody disrespectful insofar as sending me the obligatory 'dick with a pic' and thinking that's some kind of sexy foreplay, followed by their yahoo ID. I had one twonk the other day send me, unsolicited, an introductory email which had the aforementioned penis picture attached. I replied to him (my mistake ) declining and thought that would be the end of the story. Again, my mistake! In return, he gave me his Yahoo ID, told me that despite my protestations he 'understood' that "no" actually meant "yes" and further instructed me not to "fight it" as I knew full well that I "wanted it". In my world, no actually does mean exactly that, not perhaps, or maybe, but actually NO, NEVER.

Also, "Can I be your friend?" written by a supposed adult just gives me the creeps. Anyone else get that?
