greetings all,

the word "tranny" drives me nuts. just out of curiosity, because i see this term used a lot to refer to transvestite or transsexual people...am i the only person who's extremely annoyed by it? for some reason, it just grates on my nerves. it's like the term "homo" for gay people...it just always sounds perjorative to me, regardless of whether it's meant that way.

also, on a very random note...why are straight people "straight"? does that make us bisexual and gay people crooked?

crookedly,
annabelle.

I've dated many of a tranny,
and I'll tell you as much as I found them to be confusing
as to who they are, it's what they felt that they wanted to be.

I've learned to be happy with the body that I have.
I was born with it, and that's what God has given me.[sm=idea.gif]

I'm pretty sure the OP was saying that the actual word is what gets to her, not the people nor the orientation.

popeye1250 -> RE: sexual orientation slang (2/13/2008 11:16:16 AM)

Stix and stones.
Who cares about which moniker or knickname you use?
A couple more pages and this will be getting on the thin ice of "political correctness."
Oh, Lady E, wanna fuck?

Here are my thoughts on the whole subject of slapping labels on people.

While I understand that it does make figuring out people you've just met easier..... it's rather inline with my list of necessary evils there.

I honestly don't care what anyone calls me. It is usually their issues they are trying to project onto me. It is up to me if I allow those issues to be an issue for me.

mnottertail -> RE: sexual orientation slang (2/13/2008 11:23:14 AM)

Oh good grief........

so now I'm intolerant of myself, hate me and spread disinformation about me so as to feed my own bigotry?

There are two schools of thought on combating such attitudes - one is to confront it and make a total nuisance and confirm everything the bigots think about you, the other is to confront it and educate so that the bigots might change their ideas, even a little at a time. The first ends in battle lines and laws needing to be passed which are disregarded by the bigots anyway - the seconds leads to a situation where we're not seen as monsters because those who were bigots realise we're just people.

And that is where I will choose to leave it. I have lived it and have to live it every day - I dont need to justify my thoughts and ideas to anyone who hasnt, however noble and upright they might think their thoughts and ideas might be.

It is the usual bait and switch with this one.. you go along in a nice thread.. usualy on something GLBT most often... and then whammo. Outta the left field nonsense. They seem to be on the same wavelength.. but then try to make it seem like you are against your *own* group of people.. *rolls her eyes*

*shrugs*

I didnt even know Popeye had made a comment in another thread? What am I the thread police? LOL

I believe I said " Some have "Reclaimed" the word since it had negitive connotations. Much like some Lesbians use the term Dyke in a lovingly way. But Gods help you if you are a straight male who calls my girlfriend a Dyke.. LOL

Just like I said I call my girlfriend a Dyke.. but if some guy off the street called her one.. there would be some not very nice words from me at a minimum. Just like a white guy could not go up to a black rapper and say "what's up my N" You just dont do it.

If a Trans Gender person wants to call them self a tranny.. more power to them. Personaly I wont further the stereo type, and use the word. Just like I wouldnt call any other group of people by thier negitive names.

Hey I have heard gay guys calling themselves Faggots... do I call every gay guy I know a faggot.. no. Does the fact that a few have reclaimed a hateful word make it ok for the world at large to suddenly jump on the bandwagon and say that word.. No... refer back to the N word.

If dumbass people hadnt made up hateful terms for people they were affraid of because they were different we wouldnt have these issues.. but here we are.

Oh.. and the reason why I said the whole tranny as in guys looking for kinky porn that had chicks with dicks in it.. because that is how most straight males I have had to deal with put it when the whole tranny word has come up in conversation. Do yourself a favor.. google chicks with dicks. Most of the link names have Tranny in it. Google Transgender... the first page *isnt* porn... it is informative websites on Transgendered people. Google Tranny.. it is all porn... Googling Transexual gets you mostly informational websites.

So in the basic American ideas about the word Tranny it does seem to be negitive, sexual.. they are trying to reclaim it.. good for them.. but when 99% of the websites that come up with Tranny say " There is just something about a Chick with a Dick" it might be difficult. http://www.12xtranny.com/index2.php

Just my thoughts.

Gwyn

More untrue BS...every link I posted was from searching 'tranny', and look at how many came back to discussion groups on medical aspects, blogs, community resources, and so forth.  All from real members of the TS/TG community who apparently don't realize that you have appointed yourself arbiter of the 'horrible' term they use so proudly..'reclaimed' my ass...[8|]

Nineveh -> RE: sexual orientation slang (2/14/2008 1:21:26 AM)

Transexual is a gender preference (or gender identification, depending on how you look at it)  Transexuals are also gay, straight, or bi, just like anyone else.

Gwynvyd -> RE: sexual orientation slang (2/14/2008 5:06:28 PM)

Hmm this comming from a straight white guy in the mid south.. and me.. a Gay gal who has dated and lived with trans-sexuals.. and has them as friends.. let me think.. um.. yeah..

Never said I was thier spokesperson.. just said I would personaly never use that term.. and I *personaly* know a lot who find the term to be negitive.

Not sure how many pages of google you had to creep down to find your links.. but I quit on page 10 of google.. and all I got was porn. 1 wiki page on page 2, and the trannywreck.com someone posted on page 10. Which is a podcast from a transexual who was once mormon. The first actual transexual .. not a pay for porn site as per google.

Like I said.. they can reclaim the word if they want.. personaly I will not use it.. you can not make me use it.. get over it.

One this I have to strongly disagree. Transsexualism is a condition in which a person identifies with a physical sex different from the one that they were born with or assigned in cases where ambiguity of the child's sex organs led to assigning them a physical sex.
