Posting other peoples work without prior approval of the author or not recognising the original author is against TOS.
Please - DON'T DO IT.

This is just kinda foolish Mod Ten.

As what if you say I found this in this site or I found this here but I forgot who wrote it?

Is that ok? I know I dont know what goddessDelilia wrote but you should be able to see my point...

On my planet, if I am invited to someone's place, I wouldn't even imagine discussing the house rules. If the rule is shoes off, then I take my shoes off. If I don't accept the rules, I don't come in. And I certainly wouldn't let in my house someone who doesn't accept my rules. The last time someone lit a cigarette in my house was the last time I saw this person, and that was 2 minutes before he was outside. It must be different, down under.

Edit : Apparently my final remark is taken literaly by some people, who therefore think it's bigoted. It's a simple remark I make when people break a basic rule without apparently realizing they did something wrong. The point is that if they feel insulted when I say "that's probably customary where you live", that means that it's an insult to say that people do that where he lives. Which means that it's wrong to do it.
Is that clear enough ? Am I allowed to keep using irony ?

Copyright is Copyright.
If you do not own a piece of work your putting into print, at least acknowledge that it isnt your work and you don't know the author.
Better still, don't post it at all, but post a link to the site.
Something as well known as the piece that was posted took less than 30 seconds to google and find the original author.I know,i just did.

I am sure many people on this website would say "Ive read somewhere or seen this on a blah blah site or even someone said it in the bible could even be defined as being against the TOS as you have not stated who said it. Remember the bible is made up of many authors.

any story in all of history told by someone.. unless it is a direct quote..

I just want some clarity on this? As I said I dont know what was said but it leaves alot open.

Btw I had a great remark to your comment but would rather not lower myself to flaming the French or its countrymen......

As a professional author, I'll suggest that next time you see a nice piece of jewelry in a store, just put it in your pocket and show it to your friends. After all, you just want to share something pretty with them.

Oh? You're not a thief?

Taking someone else's words without permission is just as much stealing as taking that jewelry. It doesn't matter if they put it on the internet. If you took the words you are stealing.

Oh, and it IS against the law.

From the context it looks to me what the moderator removed was a direct copy from some website. That's copyright infringment (simpler word: "stealing")

Hello IT - I will try and explain to help out if I can -

There lots of times I quoted someone - like here

But I am always sure to make a note of the original author or place it in quotations - because if it doesnt belong to me and its not my words, then I shouldnt make it look like it was.
If someone quotes from the bible and says, 'I have read this in the bible' - then you are still claiming its not yours. It helps to name the book etc - but isnt the same as Delilahs post, because the bible technically doesnt belong anymore to 'anyone'. (Thats a long drawn out process to explain - but its about public domain and amount of years and who is dead etc)

Whereas, 'If I knew' by G M Grossman is something thats specific and goes around alot. Public domain rights are applicable - you can't just copy post something like that without citing the author and really should gain permission first.

With all due respects Delilah, even omitting that it isnt yours is no excuse for sharing. If its not your work, then it helps to just say something like ' I saw this and wanted to share - I do not know the author'. Someone is bound to know and might be able to help you out by acknowledging the name.

I paint and I write, and it doesn't bother me terribly if someone places my work on the net, as long as they acknowledge my work. I have created personal avatars for people and I see then stolen all the time in the excuse of 'wanting to share'. It takes 30 seconds to give a copyright notice on an author/artist/writer or one email to request using their work. It's not that difficult and shows a huge respect.

Peace and Love

All I'm saying, and which apparently you failed to understand, is that if you don't like the TOS, you should leave and start your own forum. If you don't agree with international laws about copyright, change them, or infringe them at your own risk. But stop whining because people who have some responsibilities won't let you do infringe these laws at their risk. And if you don't understand them, try to learn about them. Of course the bible is not under copyright (depending on the version and the country, though. e. g. : KJV is under perpetual copyright in the UK).

You are a guest on this website that takes time, money and responsibilities to maintain. I'm also a guest. The difference is that I try to behave as a guest, you behave as the Landlord giving orders to His household.
An englishman's home is his castle. If someone got drunk and stupid enough to call my gf or me "fool" in my house, I would kick him outside without hesitating : I lack the moderation to be a moderator.

You're quite low already, go for it. But note that I'm quite confident I already know what you were thinking about, and that I already know what I will answer. Sometimes "great remarks" just backfire.

It isnt always the best way to go - but I would guess that for some people, it is a knee-jerk reaction when confronted by bigotry themself...

Obviously it is NOT different. it wasn't meant to be taken literaly. I wanted him to realize that I was talking about very basic laws of hospitality, valid worldwide although IT seems to completely ignore them, and that the internet should not make any exception.

I admit it was poorly formulated, especially when talking to someone who needed to be reminded these basic principles. I'm sorry you took that for bigotry.

There is no need to apologise to myself at least.
I was just attempting to point out how petty 'pointing out' words are misunderstood or phrased - and that a personal attack can be misinterpreted, and so I could see why IT felt justified in response.

It would be a hope that people looked deeper into everyones responses - so that they can see where misunderstandings can arise, instead of just jumping onto the 'lets call it bigotry' card. If people took moments of their precious time (instead of trying to stir or talk without full knowledge on a subject) - to talk through that which could be misunderstood, alot less pain and hate would exist.

All we have, is time.

Peace and Love

As I said before whatever I put on this site I never said I was the author of any of it the reason I never put the author is because it was sent to me through several groups that I am a member of that didn't state the author and in life when we quote someone words we never say it was said by "such and such" because we would be mentioning other people names throughout our conversation. My point is ALL I am doing is sharing a little laugh to brighten us someone's day. I never put my name on anything as I am the author. So to all those who has nothing better to do than make comments about law and other things I have one thing to say to you and that is "GET A LIFE" Dam try to bring a little happiness or a little laughter to someone life (such as your lives) It baffles me that people can take things out of context. I am not on this site to be judged because in society our lifestyle is judged everyday by those who doesn't understand it for whatever reason so I don't expect to be judged here. I am kinda new to the postings of this site and didn't intend on anyone taking these stories as my own words as I said it was something that was passed on to me through emails and I wanted to share it with others.

You cannot just break the law and expect to get away with it. No one was judging you or accusing you - just offering simple and hopefully helpful advice. If no one mentioned it to you, then you would still be in the dark and its possible that at some point able to be prosecuted. You cannot use the excuse 'I got it through a newsgroup /email/post...etc' then - as by law, they wouldnt take that into consideration.

You joined CM and its a free site. As such, they have the responsibility to uphold local laws. If you do not like following the guidlines set up to protect people or the site, then don't stay. That is your choice. Personally, I think it would be a terrible waste to leave over something so easily learnt about.

Peace and Love

Maybe you should think about who to give the credit to the term "Peace and Love" because you did not quote who it was you got it from!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, thanks for sharing whatever it was you shared. Next time, credit it properly or just include the link ot the article. No one is judging you, at least that is not the way I see it. The rules for reposting someone elses copyrighted material are pretty plain. All these people want is to have the credit given to the author. Nothing to get upset about.
