No...which was the problem. I was trying very hard to be the submissive Christian wife I'd been raised to be. It didn't work in EITHER marriage because it went against my nature.

But, we've hijacked the thread...

As an artist and a bondage fetishist, rope bondage has long been a favorite of mine. It appeals to my visual, emotional and sexual energies, it has endless possibilities and many many levels of intensity.  You can play with a beginner or a seasoned veteran of the lifestyle and still be able to work with the same tool, rope.  It is great to use when you have close neighbors (apts & condos) and UM's and need to play quietly.  The gentle or rough glide of the rope over flesh...doesn't make a lot of noise (you may have to gag your victim).

In complete agreement with crouchingtigress, I can't even begin to call what I do shibari.  Shibari inspired, yes, but not even close to Shibari.

I highly reccomend Lee Harrington's book and Two Knotty Boys book for beginners...both are very very detailed with photos and great for learning the basics in rope.

I think taking seminars and rope workshops are the best way to learn.  Of course Shibari-Con is mecca for rope artist around the world, there are a lot of smaller and more intimate events all over the place.  Shameless plug:  I am on the planning committee for Kinko De Mayo (put on by OhioSMART in Cleveland) in May & Lee Harrington will be the Featured Presenter.

I think that this thread would be missing something if Twisted Monk were not mentioned here...

Yes rope is real.  I've been studying it for about ten years now.  Whether you call it shibari, kinbaku, Japanese inspired, fusion, it's all good.  I've worked with rope bottoms who were gone into subspace before I got the first rope on.

Shibaricon is an annual event, Memorial Day weekend in Chicago, 400+ people, ten miles of rope, this will be the fifth year.  You can learn more there in a day than anywhere else in the world

Knottyboys have several good instructional vids on UTube.  Someone else mentioned TwistedMonk, his site also has some good instructionals.

I can't belive no one else has mentioned Midori's classic instructional book "The Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage."  Which I think is now up to its third printing.
