You eat chicken with the head on? Please don't put pictures of it in your profile.

You never see Alice Cooper and Laurel3 at the same party.

A coincidence?  I think not.

HardRockergy

And I like Alice Cooper and Lauel3 as friends, what does that make me?
(ok I never met either in person, I did see Alice Cooper in concert though)
runs down the hall screaming in a socially induced frenzy............................................

I am sticking to my guns on this one.

I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered these feelings?
Again, I add...these are not people that frequent the message boards.

I have encountered those feelings in other people in the real world. And, to be honest, usually don't find them worth hanging around with. I have friends from all walks of life, those who engaged in sex often and happily, those who wait for marriage, those who dress quite sexually and those who cover almost all their body. I strongly dislike the idea of judging solely by appearence as I find it often quite misguided and incorrect. I've been judged to be a freak because of the piercings I used to have and judged to be a prude because I happened to be dressed demurely at the time. There are pictures of me floating around where you think I was quite the "ho", as you put it, and others where I look like any church-going, waiting for marriage type of girl.

However, since you feel so strongly about the subject, you probably should continue with the practice. Though I'll confess, it's not your time I'm concerned about being wasted.

In my mind, the whole 'Friends' thang reminds me of collecting Baseball Cards; and I just say NO.

Of what value is there in saying yes to people you don't know and have never chatted with, who request "Let's be Friends!"  Blechhhhhhh...  Of course some people have no clue who the people are...they are NOT friends!

But...that's just me and some think I'm a bitch,
MsB

Some of the most wonderful people I have met did not necessarily look like clean cut, conservative business people. I hate to be cliche'y here - but what is inside the book cannot always be told by the cover. Seriously.

Oh I agree, it is wonderful we have this forum and website to express
ourselves.

We are all different, and we are all attracted to different qualities.
As always, to each their own.

Has anyone hear been turned OFF by some of the "friends" some people have
on here?

No, I don't judge books by their covers.

On the other hand, I have been put off by what I call a "wall of heads": people who have so many friends that I find it hard to believe they have time for anyone new.

I've also been approached by head hunters: people who don't know me, don't seem to want to get to know me, but want to add my picture as "friend" on their wall.

The first time that happened I figured it was just another way of saying "hello, I like you and want to get to know you". I handle those situations differently now, suggesting we get to know one another first.

I've one friend on my profile but she has been a good friend, and anyone who'd judge me by her profile pic is welcome to do so, as I will not abandon my friend for the sake of image.

Well, Mia ... I'm at a loss. If you want to judge other people on their choice of friends by those friends' pictures, and if you aren't going to take the time to get to know these friends, you could be making serious judgemental errors by trusting these biases; but as your sig says, to each his / her own. So ... more power to ye.

What if the pictured featured the subject of the prolfile and his friends....

Posing in a large group hug dressed in white robes with pointed white hoods?

Posing in a white tank top revealing the "Fuk U Bitches" tattoo, a gold necklace that cost more than the trailer he is standing in front of, and baggy jeans falling off his hips with a hand on the exposed butt of a 9mm handgun?

Would you still take the time to find out if they were decent guys?

Edited to Add : I firmly beleive that there are two kinds of people. People who judge by appearance and people who are full of shit. How people represent themselves through their appearance is the first clue we receive into understanding who and what they are as people. People use appearance all the time to make judgements to avoid danger.

You said it MR, I didn't!
People are always going to judge you by whatever means/criteria they want to.

What amuses me, are those that beat you over the head saying "I don't judge
people!".
Yeah, whatever.

"To each their own".
Peace

If you've looked through some of the couple pictures you'll see many people do not judge based on appearance.

I've yet to pick a woman because I think she is beautiful on the outside (tho' she might be). Appearances do not last as one ages, but what is within not only lasts, but grows more beautiful with experience.

Beyond male/female/adult/child distinctions I do not find appearances to be very helpful in selecting a mate.

AquaticSub -> RE: Birds of a feather flock together? (2/17/2008 8:02:34 PM)

It could be just me, but seeing someone dressed in the robes of the KKK and deciding not to associate with their friends is a touch different than deciding that someone looks like a "ho" and deciding not to associate with their friends.

I'll freely admit that I judge people. I judge people by what standards they judge others by and what they have in their profiles and the kind of shoes they wear to particular events. But this seems like a silly thing to judge by. Course, that's just my judgement.

juliaoceania -> RE: Birds of a feather flock together? (2/17/2008 8:09:52 PM)

I would not judge someone based upon their friend's list completely. I might look at it to see who they felt was worth adding, but I would not exclude someone based on that alone. Some people are just "friendlier" than I am, and they do not place that much importance on it.

MzMia -> RE: Birds of a feather flock together? (2/17/2008 8:13:12 PM)

I agree julia, some people are very, very, friendly!
[:D]

Hey Bobby,

Welcome back. I see you have changed your profile. I can't say I blame you. After the huge mess of lies, inconstinencies, and cowardice you left behind on your old one, it was the smart thing to do.

I'm sure you will out do yourself with this one though. Your already off to a good start with your third grade reading comprehension level. For those of us who are capable of comprehending the words in front of us and replying to the orginal message without "Bobifying" the argument, judging by appearance is not limited to simply determing beauty/ugliness of a potential partner.

Judging by appearance is....follow me on this one...forming any judgement based on appearance.

Have you introduced yourself to the strange man following you down the alley at midnight wearing dark sunglasses and a hood over his head and asked him about his favorite football team? Or maybe...you thought "Geez, this guy looks dangerous" and sped up a bit?

Perhaps when you see a man dressed like a police officer after being mugged, you think to yourself "I should call for help, but I shouldn't be judgemental and presumptous that he is a police officer based on his clothing."

If you have done the second, then you have made a...*drum roll*...judgement based on appearance.

We're always collecting information about people and using that information to make judgements. The only time this gets bad press is when the judgements being made are not politically correct ones.

Your more than welcome to call me mycopic, but unfortanely in my experiences, it's a rare thing when someone drastically changes the initial opinion I have formed of someone based on their appearance, style, and mannerisms. I tend to be a pretty good judge of character though.

I think this is because people's appearances are external expressions of their internal selves.

Is this the only tool I use? Nope. However, it's a tool that works more than it doesn't work and I have no intentions of abandoning a perfectly good tool just so I can give everybody's "inner beauty" a chance to come out.

I have avoided a lot of situations that would have turned out to be very negative in a variety of different ways based on judgements I had formed primarily from appearance.

When the majority of people who dress like ho's stop turning out to be like ho's after I get to meet them, I will probably stop thinking to myself "Wow! She's probably a ho!" when I see someone dressed like a ho.

Hell yeah!
I ain't changing a damn thing, you have inspired me to be even more picky.
[:D]

We all a right to size people up we don't know that approach us,
using whatever criteria that we want to use.

You use whatever criteria works for you, and I will use what works for me.

~FR~ to no single person......

I think I'm a fairly decent person. I'm off the wall.. left of center. .. I have tattoos that can be viewed when I do not choose to cover them (upper arms, calf, upper back).
I have been judged based solely on the fact that I have skinart showing.

Will you immediately judge me as UNWORTHY because I have tattoos?

If so, then I'm sorry. Because you have passed up a chance to kow the PERSON that I am... your judgement has denied me because what you SEE is the yardstick.
HOWEVER... as in my avatar pic.. if you saw me without my tats showing.. would you have taken the time to talk? laugh? find out that I am a PERSON? Discover I have a brain?

Guess what.. I am the same, inked or not. I am the same if I have a singlewide trailer that is shoddy, the same if I'm missing 15 teeth.

just saying.
