LadyTigana -> What does the term "boi" mean? (2/21/2004 10:08:43 PM)

Ever since I got into the lifestyle, I've seen the term "boi" used frequently online and I've been wondering what its true meaning is? So far I've seen it used to refer to a male submissive, a feminized male submissive, a lesbian Domme's female submissive, or a female who prefers to dress and act in a boyish manner. What's the correct definition/usage of this word?

Not sure of it's exact correctness, but I've always associated and seen 'boi' regarded as a masculinized lesbian who grooms, dresses and acts in boyish manners. I've always associated it as sub, whatever the clearest distinction.

Urbandictionary.com
boi - young butch/tough lesbian. A tomboy.

(plus 21 more definitions of boi)

however, it also defines:
toy boi - a lesbian who is 'kept' by an older nore protective lesbain.

I truly believe the origin of the term is in lesbianism, but a quick Google search of anything with 'boi' will bring a plethora of gay sites using the lingo also... it's getting 'buzz word' treatment.

I agree with inyouagain.

When I started seeing the term it was pretty exclusive to the lesbian scene. It has, as most things do, become a buzz word across the board.

It's important to note that whenever you use a saying like this it often means different things to different people. I know people that get a bit indignant if the term "boy" is used (although this doesn't really speak to the 'lesbianized' "boi"). Some because they see it as a diminutive and others because they see it as a label for an earned status that few really have been through the rigors to attain.

Years ago I only saw the term "boi" used in the lesbian scene. This could simply be because that happened to be my first exposure to it, rather than 'because it began there.' I saw it, however, in the lesbian/online community a number of years before I ever saw it anywhere else.

As the old expression goes "Right from the horse's mouth". I am a lesbian and I can basically explain what boi means. It only came around since the internet. Very Butch or Transgendered Butch's that feel as though there is more than two genders, prefer to use that term. They also use hym as him, hy as he, hys as his, etc. It denotes that they are not male or female, but a third gender, Butch. In BDSM, boi is used to describe a Butch submissive. If you have any other questions, let me know.

For me " boi" with and "i" is female. " Boy" with a "y" is male. Your quickly corrected in the gay leather scene if your use the wrong one. I laugh when I get a male who contacts me saying that he wants to be my "Boi" It happens alot. I always advise people to look of the meanings of words before they use them . I know of its origin to be pre internet however. As it is in Townsends original leatherman handbook.

boi's as leather submissive females to "dyke daddy's" The Daddy/boi and Daddy/boy relationship paradigm has been prevelant in the leather community since its inception.
