Hoods for extended wear - 2/18/2008 4:17:17 PM

We've recently enacted a 24/7 lifestyle and I desire a good amount of this time to be spent with her in various types of hoods.

A problem we recently encountered is that her only hood (spandex, similar to this: http://www.madame-s.com/images/items/SP039_0.jpg) has a seam running up the center of her face and it puts an uncomfortable amount of pressure in undesirable spots. We now understand that we're going to need to plan out our hood purchases a little better, so we got to thinking...

Does anyone have any experience with wearing hoods for extended amounts of time, along the lines of anywhere between one to eight hours? Can you recommend for or against certain types of hoods, with such things as build and type of material used in mind? I would love to get her some latex and leather hoods but I fear that they could get uncomfortably sweaty over time.

Any advice is much appreciated.

I had a leather hood custom made out of kidskin leather that is very comfortable and is worn for up to 10 hours at a time, however this is not an off the shelf item and required four measuring and fitting sessions before I was happy about the fit and conformity.
The hood is not an open eye and mouth as in your illustration, it has two breathing holes for the nose and a zipped opening for the mouth.
I usually sleep with the mouth unzipped as I not feel comfortable with the restricted airflow from just the two nose holes.
My recomendation for extended or long term wear get one custom made and be prepared to spend a little extra for that correct fit and comfortas there is nothing worse than an illfitting or uncomfortable hood and there is no pleasure in wearing it nor is your mind going to be receptive on the other activities that are in progress.

Mr S in San Francisco carries hoods made of I think it is called Darlex (black).  They are a stretchy material, look really sexy on and feel terrific to wear for long periods.  They can be had with no holes, mouth hole only or mouth and eye holes.  I love mine.

I might add to my last post, there are no seams across the face of the hood.  I think this is just what you are looking for

i have a leather hood that both the nose and the mouth can be snapped on or off. Of which my Dom and i prefer having the mouth closed and just breathing through the nose holes. Works really well for long periods of time, though getting sweaty is one drawback.

The material is not as important as a comfortable fit.

I have worn hoods made of almost all materials, up to 24 hrs or more.  If the hood is made of material that does not breathe, you may experience sweat leaking into your eyes.

Hoods that put pressure on the nose can interfere with breathing through the nose incl. tight pantyhose.

Mistress and i have searched every site imaginable to find a sexy female style hood for me, possibly with a ponytail and the female facial accentuation. All the hoods on every site W/we have seen, (leather, latex, rubber, ect) seem to be be either only in black or strictly tailor made to make the wearer look as if in a horror movie. Mistress wishes to have me in a sexy feminine hood and my shemale body exposed at fetish events but hates the masculine look of all the hoods W/we have seen on every site. If anyone knows of a place for Her to find sexy feminine masks/hoods, W/we would be greatly appreciative.

I believe that Demaske (I'm not sure of the spelling but there in one in N.Y. and one in the Netherlands)has sexy latex ones in mixed collars.I bet if you looked in a Skin 2 calalogue or even Polymorph you'd see some cool latex as well.

Both my sub and I are hood wearers...big time. I own more than a dozen...yeah ,yeah, yeah ,what can I say ,I have a fetish! :-) and they are worn even overnight at times. Thick ,thin, strapped ,laced up ,zippers you name it. Most are latex.Polymorphe brand is my favorite because they fit like a second skin and zip up the back (great for quick removal if need be). They come in single, double, and triple thick with all kinds of variations on openings. For a first hood I recommend nose and mouth holes-VERY useful. Want the mouth filled? Fill it!Want to do breath play? Cover the holes with your hand. No need for a clumsy blindfold!Nice smooth head.

As for sweating, not really a  problem. Just remove their clothing!! :-) Seriously, just get feedback on room temp from them.Any covering on the head keeps in some heat (that is why I wear a hat in the winter, keeps me warmer!)...just be aware.

The leather hood is a GREAT new addition. The scent of the leather is wonderful . This is my first leather hood purchase. Most do not hug the head like the latex does, but this one is designed with a "baseball" design of stitching that curves beautifully to the head. It laces up the back and has straps that go across the eyes, across the mouth and under the chin. The straps makes it super snug...plus they lock! You can get it from Purple Passion in NYC.

Latex hoods run about $125 depending on thickness,my leather runs about $300ish.

Hoods are great fun! I will have to get rook to put up pictures of the  new leather one- if the Collarme Mods approve it!

hope this helps...Ms Feral

Hello, there are all kinds of ways to make hoods consisting of several different kinds of materials. I cannot begin to think of how many hoods I have made over the years for various people that were custom to there needs.

We have two hoods one leather and one rubber. The rubber one makes you very warm and sweaty but the leather ones much more comfy to wear for long periods of time. Both the eyes and the mouth can be zipped closed and the back zips and laces for a snug effect. Yes it can get warm in there after a while but not to a point that it's too uncomfortable.

Take a look at http://www.fetishwear.net/catalog/RS600.html, or www.top-to-bottom-leathers.co.uk (and look for the Beanie hood) which might provide you with a solution to your problem.

The most awesome hood I have seen and  felt,  is made by Sinvention and you can see it at http://sinvention.com/fetish_section_head_trips.html and look for the sensory deprivation hoood, its beautifully made, padded, well finished on all seams, and laced up at the back for comfort fit, this is almost tops on my kinky want list:) Just after matching latex catsuits:) hehh

I've found spandex hoods to be comfortable for extended wear. Here's a link: http://www.kinkemporium.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=K&Category_Code=BGH
KinkEmporium.com has a few of them priced around $30.
