of the internet---you know, I don't know why I do this these days, maybe when I have a boy, My mornings will be taken up by other thingsm but I wake at dawn and the mind starts with philisophy----this morning it was the internet--thinkibg back to the days when we did not have it, rejoicing in it and cursing it at the same time---

So I thought for fun---maybe capture some of your thoughts of  why you like it and why you hate it--

So here is Mine:

Like it:
  • Open global communications
  • Masses of information
  • Accessibility
  • Enables Me to work at home

Hate it:
  •  Too open global communications
  • Too much conflicting information
  • Too accessible
  • Too many ads!!

And you?

Hun,  GREAT topic.  I was lementing just last night how I am so glad I was there, in the early days. How it went from simple to fascinating  to corporate.

Anything is possible when it was built.  Now today it is less then that.

What do I hate, I blow too many hard drives and not enuff  ERR nevermind....lol

What I adore with the Net is the instant access to information of any kind: encyclopaedic, newsworthy, triva, etcaetera. I adore that I can communicate with my family (spread out throughout the globe as we are) so easily.

What I find problematic with the Net and computers in general is that it's bringing out a tendency in people to stay indoors and become socially isolated.

Ultimately, it runs a risk that social skills will die out and that a generation of social morons will arise from the cinders of civilisation as we knew it  .

The internet gives a writer access to a world-wide audience ... including feedback.

What's not to like?

It is endlessly fascinating to watch so many different behaviour patterns played out between the participants: perhaps one of the most useful lessons in human psychology I've ever experienced.

The only thing I hate is being stuck with a 56k bandwidth.

What I love:

* The ability to handle business from my home
* Access to information about anything I am interested in
* Access to information about a whole lot of stuff I suddenly find interesting
* Finding out what I really need to know, as opposed to what the PTB want to tell me

What I hate

* Scammers and others who use the Internet as their own personal playground, complete with phish pond

The last is in response to an email I got this morning purporting to be from my bank, complete with the bank's logo. It said (name of bank removed):

We recently reviewed your account, and suspect that your ____________ account may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party. Protecting the security of your account is our primary concern. Therefore, as a preventative measure, we have temporarily limited access to sensitive account features.
To restore your account access, we need you to confirm your identity, to do so we need you to follow the link below and proceed to confirm your information:

I have been educated in the area of scams, so the first thing I did was go to my online access and check. As I suspected, all my access was available.

The sad thing is that enough people fall for this kind of scheme that it continues to be profitable for the scammers.

I can't believe people actually would fall for any scam asking them to release sensitive information.

I love being on-line.  The biggest drawback for me is that I waste too much time.  In the summer it's easy to step away from the computer, not so much in the winter.

I agree with the winter thing, far too easy to hang and hang, then the writers strike came along and another excuse--oy
