BBW...it could be anything....Big Bad Wolf...

I suddenly have two songs running through my head (yes, it gets confusing in there during times like this).

first: "Who's afraid of the big bad wolf" from the three little pigs ...
second: "Little red riding hood" ... with the wolf howls and everything ...

Bah, now I have to go find my music and get something else stuck in there ...

I've always thought of BBW as being something that a 'fat' girl called herself to let others know that she knows she's fat, and shes self-confident and likes herself, depsite whatever stuff society says she should be.

Dave I love how you worded your explanation of BBW....

I am a fat girl, who is comfortable with herself despite what society says....
Thanks Dave!

This is kinda interesting: I have encountered a few women who referred to themselves as a BBW in their profiles, or in a conversation in messenger. After a time we would exchange pictures and there were a few of them that I am still trying to figure out how they thought they were a BBW.

Ok, I am gonna try to explain Myself without getting someone pissed off at Me. In My opinion... just My opinion... a BBW would be like a size 18 or 20 and on up. I mean, as I have said before, Marylin Monroe was a size 14. Was she a BBW? I don't see that. So these women I speak of were like sizes 12 to 16... and they were smokin' hot!

Could it be that I just admire a woman who is pleasantly plump? or has the commercial media brainwashed us into thinking anything above size 6 is BBW?

I would appreciate some feedback on this one. Thanks

I once went on Halloween to the Galleria Domain in Chicago, dressed as "Little Red Riding Ho"
I passed out candy from my basket. Condoms are a great idea!

From RainGod:

In a word? Yes. Though really its probably anything over a size 2 or 4.
I personally tire of the media trying to fit everyone into the same mold. Especially when I'm trying to buy clothes. I'm a shrinking size 12 and I know many who would consider me a "Fat chick". I used to be a size 22. I felt like a fat chick then, and did something about it. I wasn't happy there, though more power to those who are happy with their size, no matter what it is. I'm also 4'8.5", with 36DD chest, and an hourglass body. Nothing fits. I cant shop in women's cause stuff is way too long. Petite is typically too long as well, since thats for the just under 5'4" crowd. Kids is out cause ah gots hips, thankyah verra much :D.
The media favors the tall, slender, with relatively little difference betweeen waist and hip. And thats whats available out there for folks to wear. Most stuff is designed for the the "standard". There was this Dove ad for.... curvy.... women. I think they ranged from size 8 to maybe 16. Maybe. They said these were normal women, and I thought them all fit, relatively slim, and one of them with what I considered curves. Good that they are trying to change the image of what is normal but I dont think they went far enough. And Wow, was there a backlash. One media goon went so far as to call them chunky and fat, and was offended that he had to look at their grossness on bilboards.
That floors me. Granted, the ad is for some stupid cellulite cream.... talk about a mixed message.... But its really out of hand how those who do not fit the standard of media beauty are ridiculed and made to feel ugly and less than.
I personally have a preference for healthy women. Some healthy women are a size 2. Some are a size 16, and so on. I look for not only physical health, but mental health. If someone loves their body, works to keep it healthy and is happy with their body image, they just exude sexiness to me. I don't care how physically attractive a woman's package is, if she has an unhealthy self image, I'm just not interested. But enough with the being crammed into one size fits all mold!

Someone once told me that many women involved in the "Lifestyle" were "BBW"... I know one of the groups I used to be involved in 70% of the (female) subs were "Plus size", albeit size 12 or better.

Standard "size" used to be size 8 (that was 10+ years ago tho). I've also come to learn that sizing changes and is not standardized. The clothes in my closet currently are sized 16 to 22 - they all fit just fine. The key difference is the store of purchase. A couple of years ago, a local station did a report on the lack of standardization in women's clothing. They cited various "sizes", a size 16 with a waist size of 34" up to a size 22 with a waist size of 37"...

You know the real pain? Being almost 6' tall and "plus" sized - good luck finding pants that don't make you look like you are waiting for a flood...!! It has only been over the last couple of years that clothing manufacturers are realizing tall people can be fat too.. *lol*

Anyway, BBW is a term that actually annoys me.. I can't tell you why, it just does. I can't say that I go as far to say I'm a "fat chick", I tend to use more flowery terms to describe myself... I have to agree about healthy women, however I still tend to favor curvy women because there is a psychological link (for me) to size and health... That and I don't have to worry about squishing someone... ;)

mystictryst ,
The so called 'chubby subbie' phenomenon. I dunno that its true anyways.... I recall seeing stats saying that something like 2/3rds of all Americans are overweight, so 70% doesn't seem out of line to me... I never worried about size, unless it's the size of her smile. Well, I never held a nice rack against someone, but i digress. For me it's always been about attitude, so a self confident woman of any size that is submissive to me is much more attractive than a 'model' without a genuine smile or who was so high maintenance it wasn't worth it... Pardon me for rambling

Subbiekitten, you're welcome :}

Raingod, I've seen the same thing...As I said, if they're saying they're BBW, they're aware they aren't models, and generally dont care what others think. It may also be a way to ward off the a$$holes that discover a girl is not a size 2 and give her a raft of noise over it.

BBW is a euphemism for fat.

*ducking*

It means "big beautiful woman" and is also known by the terms "curvy" "rubenesque" and others.

I disagree actually. I think "the media" (if we are talking about the women who make a lot of money for being hot) favors women with a pretty good bust/waist/hip ratio. Whiel the high fashion industry spent some time on the stick figure type the last 10 years or so have been dominated even there by women with very pronounced curves.

Now, how MUCH of a ratio counts as being "relatively little difference" is a matter of personal opinion of course. This is just mine.

LMAO, Thanks for that laugh.
I know what you mean; in the 80s and beginning 90s I bought men's levis because they did come in plus size (38-44) and long enough, because it's okay for men to have bigger asses I guess, lol.
Now it's not a problem, a lot of people make tall pants, and JJILL makes some very comfortable ones. M

Point of order here... No EVERYONE was snorting coke in the 80's or any time. having read this, and had I known where you were in the 80's RG, I'd probably have organised having you busted. FYI I have never snorted or had anything to do from a user or supplier situation coke or horse. But I have spent more years than I care to remember hunting down the suppliers in a wide variety of places about the world. Please dont make such generalizations even in jest. At the best they are in bad taste. Yes in matters such as drugs I have no SoH and no mercy either.

There is a reason you don't see that... it isn't true. Marilyn would be somewhere between a size 4 and a 6 in today's numbers - the sizes have changed dramatically over the years. There are some good resources about this and even Snopes says that at the TOP end of their estimated sizes she might be a modern 12.

I only point it out because this myth is so often repeated.

Jeeeeeze, IB.... I was jokin'... didn't realize it offend anyone. If it did I do apologize. No, I do not use drugs, nor do I supply them. Having worked in law enforcement, and as I a currently studying for a Forensics career, I do not condone them either. As I said it was a joke, and I am sorry if it was off-color.

I am shocked and amazed. Thank you for sharing this information. I still am shaking My head. No matter what size she was... I still think she had the most excellent shape I ever fantasized about. I do appreciate this eye-opener, though.

"Vanity Sizing" went into play for some manufacturers a few years back. I read that Marilyn Monroe actually was a Size 16. A size 16 today, as compared to the 1950s is quite different. A size 16, during her day, is probably a size 12 today. Not BBW, by most standards, I think.

Vanity sizes, from my own research, shows about a 3.5 size difference, as compared to old sizing. I used to sew and I checked against old patterns. So a size 16 today, WAS a size 12 probably back then (not a 4 or 6), FYI.

How do I know? Vanity sizing went into effect when I was "gaining" weight. I remember telling myself..."well, my clothes still fit, so I'm must be okay." NOT!

Sizing differences can be from one to two full sizes up, with Vanity Sizing. All manufacturers do not use Vanity Sizing though.

And men...if you want to have a hint to a ladies "size"...just ask her. You might want to learn about "sizes"...cause I would venture a guess more women would be apt to give their "size, " versus divulging how much they weigh. (And...as in my case, the actual weight is not reflective of how I 'look,' as muscle weighs more than fat...and much of my weight is from the exercises I enjoy.)

K

PS Size matters...but, heck...what the hell does it mean?

Sigh, Marlyin....... the media, our own self image. God it sucks if only
to speak for myself. Advertising IMHO is just an evil cousin of what we
as a society beleive. We've/I have pulled that hook along with the sinker
right down to my belly, that I dispise. Now before you all go saying diet,
its more then that. Some of us lived thru the concentration camps, them
skinny ones didnt. Yet those in high places at this time in History have
deemed *thin* as desireable. I one who fights those numbers on the scale to
keep the standards within reach. Yet I've an adult unmentionable who is by
goverment standards over the edge of unhealthy by leaps and bounds.
I fret, she doesnt. Why do I fret, am I uncomfortable in my skin?
Hell yes, every commercial, every add tells me either my age or size.
Could I be more fit? Yes, of course I could. Yet I'm strong as an Ox.
Have I ever been told I'm too (cough) too Fat? Not in so many words.
Yet the whisper of it I've heard. Do I like me this way? Yes, yet Either way
I will always lack curves. Which I do wish I had! The issue with all this is
being comfortable in your own skin. And if reminded over and over and over
again that you *lack* the *proper* or *wanted* size eventually an issue crops
up that one wishes to hide. I would guess that is no different across the board
Sub or Domme. Yet givin the mentality of a Sub and their wish to please we
look for answers else where, be it past, present or future, advertising or what
we see Master watching. At times it's difficult to be comfortable in our own
skin even when we actually like it!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

The studio said Marily Monroe was 36D- 23 waist -36 hip. With measurements of 36D - 28 - 38 the jeans are size 10.
